Gooding City Police Raising Funds With "No Shave November"
The Gooding Police Department is again participating in No Shave November to raise funds for local youth and families this Christmas. We had some later donations last year which we have carried over to this year. With that, we are already halfway to our target goal of $1,000.00. Last year, prior to the late donations, we fell short of our goal, but did raise just over $700.00. We expect to do much better this year with all donations spent on kids and families in our own area and town. Donations may be made personally at Gooding City Hall, the Gooding Police Department, or even mailed to the Gooding Police Department at 308 5th Ave West, Gooding, Idaho 83330. We would like to have all donations in by Thursday, December 12th, so that we may go shopping for our selected recipients of gifts this year.
The Gooding Police Department is also accepting applications for an entry level police officer and an experienced officer/detective. If you know of someone who would like to begin or continue a career with the Gooding Police Department, please let them know. Application closing date is 8 November, 2019 with a pay rate of $17.50 – $20.00 per hour, DOE. Applications are available at the Gooding PD office or at the City website, www.goodingidaho.org.
The Gooding Dog Pound is in need of volunteers to assist with maintenance and care of our furry little guests when Ordinance Office Kelley is unavailable. He could also use assistance with transportation occasionally when he is able to find other placement options in the Treasure Valley, the Wood River Valley, or even elsewhere. We have sent dogs to out of state locations as well. Generally these are short notice and based upon space available.
Sign Up to Run the Gooding Gobbler
The Gooding Gobbler is a walk/run 5K held on Thanksgiving. It began in 2013 by Emily Graybeal and friends, as a fundraiser to help a friend cover his medical costs from cancer. Since then it has donated funds to various organizations such as the Gooding Volunteer Group's playground fund and the Gooding Fire Department. This year the Gooding High School baseball team will receive the proceeds.
The run/walk starts at North Valley Acadmey which then winds through town and the countryside. All participants will recieve a t-shirt with registration. If you have a child 5 and under their registration will be free. All paid runners will receive a custom Goodling Gobbler Beanie! Medals will be given out to top finishers and to other fun categories such as the oldest and youngest runners.
We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at the race.
Event details and schedule
Pre-registration begins at 7:00 am on site. The race begins at 8:00 am. The course will begin at North Valley Academy at 906 Main Street, turn left onto 7th Ave West, turn left onto 1800 East, then left again on 14th Ave West and back up to Main Street. Gooding City Notes
Airport
Western Construction is making tremendous progress on the 635’ runway extension at the airport. Because of available FAA funding the project has been broken into two parts: Phase 1 currently being worked on includes the relocation of approximately 130,000 cubic yards of dirt to build the foundation for the asphalt. Phase 2, the asphalt work, is anticipated to be funded in 2021
Sanitation
At the most recent city council meeting the council decided not to commit to a privatization of our sanitation services at this time. In an effort to be progressive minded and consider operating costs of the future, the council began an investigation a few months ago into our city run sanitation. They received bids from multiple private companies and compared what these companies could offer against what services the city now offers and expenses it incurs. After careful consideration and after seeking public input from those in attendance at meetings, the council decided to continue operating as normal. The city would like to thank those companies that dedicated time and energy to our problem solving process.
Parks
The Gooding Volunteer Group and city staff gathered early this month to install the story boards located around the area of the West Park and were also able to purchase and install the border around the new equipment at the West Park, Thank you so much!
Streets
Crews have been busy gathering tree limbs during clean up week. The tree yard will remain open into the first part of November, weather permitting.
Water
Welcome to Idaho! Seemingly overnight the weather has turned cold! Be sure and winterize your pipes.
Geographic Information System
The city has been compiling data to help manage its infrastructure and resources. We have contracted with Idaho Rural Water Association to gather GPS data on both the water and sewer systems. This information allows staff to more quickly locate meters and valves in an emergency, track maintenance and repairs, etc. Most recently we have collected data on all of our stop and speed limit signs so that we can complete out Transportation Master Plan. The mapping and database for the signs will help us secure grant money to fund replacement signs that are out of compliance in addition to tracking repair and replacement.
