STAAR Tips for Parents
We want our students to be set up for success on test days! Please help your child with the following:
- Get a good night's sleep - please make sure your child gets at least 8-10 hours of sleep. Please limit phones and electronics in the bedroom!
- Eat a healthy, protein-filled breakfast.
- Wear comfortable clothes and bring a lunch (unless buying), water bottle, jacket, and book to read.
- Electronic devices (such as phones and smart watches) have to be taken up during testing so we advise leaving those at home.
We are so proud of how hard our students have worked and how much they've learned this year! Remember that these tests are just a chance for them to show off what they know, and that we only ask that they do their very best!
* 1, 2, 3, 4 - we declare a penny war! *
Our coin drive for senior scholarships is going on now from April 11-25th.
How it works:
Students will turn in their donations to homeroom teachers during arrival, until announcements begin.
Prizes:
After the first week of collection (April 11-13), the LC with the most donations, will win an extra recess and popsicles.
At the end of the coin drive, the 5th grade LC and the 6th grade LC with the highest collection totals overall will win a visit from the Collins Snack Cart. Each student in the winning LCs will get to choose a sweet snack, salty snack, and a drink.
STAAR Days:
5th Grade Reading STAAR is scheduled for April 20th, which falls within our coin drive window. We will not be able to accept donations from 5th graders on that day (6th graders can still donate).
6th Grade Reading STAAR is scheduled for April 25th, which is the last official day of our coin drive. Since we won't be able to accept donations from 6th graders on April 25th, the last day for 6th grade donations is actually April 24th.
Collins LC Totals as of Friday
Our Goal is $1000 from each LC - for a chance to give 10 former
Collins Seniors a $1000 Scholarship
Band and Orchestra Solo and Ensemble - Saturday 4/15
Congratulations to all the Collins Cobras that participated in Orchestra and Band Solo and Ensemble the past weekend. Thank you for going above and beyond by preparing your music and performing for your judges.
The staff of Collins is proud of you!
Cavalier Fest - Monday 4/17
Our Collins Honor Orchestra and our Wind Ensemble group for band are participating in the Cavalier Festival competition this coming Monday. Please wish our groups luck as they go and represent our campus at this competition! If your student is one of the attendees, please remember they must wear their band/orchestra shirt and jeans to school this day.
You will need to pick up your child from Main Event at 3:30 pm.
Donations Requested
Our wonderful school is undergoing some duct work renovations this summer! As a result, we would love and appreciate donations for old used and clean sheets for teachers to cover items in their classroom. Please drop them off at the front office. Thank you!
Collins Virtual Tour
Check out this year’s Virtual Tour of Collins Intermediate! Please share with incoming 5th graders for some great information about our school and cameos from this year's amazing students!
Summer Movers - Action Required
A summer mover is a student that is currently enrolled with Conroe ISD but is leaving the district at the end of the school year, and not returning for the 23/24 school year. They may be going to another district within Texas, a private school, being homeschooled or going to an out of state school.
Should your student fall into the “Summer Movers” category, please contact our Registrar,
Mrs. Marney Roberts-Nield at mrobertsnield@conroeisd.net, or 281-298-3810.
Mrs. Roberts-Nield will provide the correct paperwork for you to complete, to ensure a smooth transition for your student to their new school.
GT Summer Testing
Referral requests will open on April 3rd for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Testing will take place on Tuesday, May 30-Thursday, June 1 at Bush Elementary from 8:00am - 11:00am. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or campus staff. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher. Referrals will be accepted April 3-28, 2023. The referral form is linked below; please return it to Lisa Lackey by dropping it off at the front office or by emailing her at llackey@conroeisd.net. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.
If a student took any GT test this school year, he/she may not participate in this round of testing. It is the same test and will invalidate the norms.
Off Campus Private PE
The application window is now open for Off Campus Private PE for the 2023-2024 school year. The application process is entirely electronic and there is no paper application.
