A few things to remember when meeting people...
- It takes three weeks to change a first impression.
- The average recall of information when listening to someone else is 15% - after one week passes, it drops to 6%.
- When meeting people for the first time, keep a clear mind, repeat their name during the conversation, and maintain eye contact.
- Listen twice as much as you speak.
These tips were shared by Matthew Goerke at my Rotary Breakfast this past week. I know that I can learn from them!!! He also emphasized that failure is often a self-fulfilling prophecy!
The ADHD-Dyslexia Connection
ADHD symptoms are exacerbated by dyslexia. Both ADHD and dyslexia have several symptoms in common, such as information-processing speed challenges, working memory deficits, naming speed, and motor skills deficits. It is easy for a parent or professional to mistake dyslexic symptoms for ADHD.
Dyslexic students will exhibit concentration and attention problems with reading demands, but not in other situations. For individuals with ADHD, attention is low in any unstimulating environment or task.
Those diagnosed with dyslexia are better at auditory processing than those with ADHD.
Those with ADHD and/or dyslexia are at high risk for self-esteem issues.
A study conducted at Cass Business School, in London, found that 35 percent of entrepreneurs were dyslexic. Dyslexics were more likely than non-dyslexics to delegate authority, and to excel in oral communication and problem-solving. In other words, dyslexia and success can go hand in hand.
