Oregon Education Survey Results
During the our public outreach project last spring by COSA, 10,894 Oregonians spoke their minds – and their hearts – about our students and our schools. And they are in remarkable agreement. They value education, and they are not satisfied with the status quo. They want more for our students. Simply put, they believe that the gap between what Oregon students need and what Oregon is giving them is far too large.
They asked that we work to close the gap, and they said that focusing on two essential priorities will make the biggest difference:
1. Add teachers and staff to make class sizes smaller and provide students with the individual attention and engagement they need to be successful, and
2. Provide a well-rounded education that goes beyond science to STEM/STEAM, restores art and music, provides CTE opportunities, teaches civics and culture, and much more.

Executive Functioning Tips
Welcome back to another school year! Welcome back to waking up early, following a morning routine, fitting in homework, sports, chores and everything else life brings!
For many kids, managing time and following a routine is nearly impossible. Their brains are still developing this higher level thinking skill (Executive Function). In order to help them be successful, sometimes we need to change the environment. Changing simple things around the house can create great changes in children. Throughout the year we will provide some tips for helping with time management and organization at home and school.
For now, start with compassion! Let your child know you understand how painful it must be to struggle with getting things done. It is not his/her fault they may struggle with time management, it involves the wiring in the brain. Let them know you will work together on strategies to help him/her and…THE WHOLE FAMILY! Mentioning that the whole family will be working together on this may help take some of the stress from your child.
Keep in mind: You can’t do what you can’t do. Your child isn’t an adult yet. Be patient. We’re all in this together!
