Conformity
Every aspect of life in the 40s was based on conformity. All girls wanted to dress similarly, have similar hairstyles and act the same way. Boys had the same aspirations, be a varsity athlete and study business. Families were expected to act and treat each other in the "normal" way. In order to be popular, and accepted you had to act and dress the way everyone did.
Family
This ad depicts a family all drinking 7-Up. It says "All-American Family" which shows that this the typical american family. They are all together, playing games, and drinking soda. Every member is composed, dressed well, and looks to be happy. The composed look and togetherness is what the typical american family should be like.
Success
The average teenage girl in the 1940s married at the age of 20. Right out of high school they would have been searching for a man to marry. According to this advertisement, Skinner cloth would provide the young women success in finding and marrying a man. Once the ladies sowed the gorgeous patterned cloth, they would attract a man and turn their date into an engagement. Wearing the fabric through years of marriage would make her a glamorous and successful wife and mother.
Thesis
Conformity is the most important aspect of 1940s teenagers life because that was the only option they had.
