Vikan Knights, ARMOR Up!
From Principal Velez
Hello Vikan Community,
On Wednesday, April 26th more than 200 Vikan Knights who have received a Positive Office Referral were treated to pizza from Simply Pizza Food Truck. In order to receive a Positive Office Referrals from their teachers, these students have to demonstrate our core values of ARMOR (ADAPTABILITY - RESPECT - MOTIVATION - OPTIMISM - RESPONSABILITY).
These Knights are also entered into a raffle every Friday where they can win $5, $,10 or $15 gift cards. Every Knight who has received a Positive Office Referral will also be invited to a celebration at the end of the year where they can get prizes, Kona Ice, and much more!
If you would like to donate gift cards for this program, please drop off your donation at our main office.
I would also like to thank Melinda Weatherholt-Carbajal from Simply Pizza for her generous donation. This event had not cost for Vikan thanks to Simply Pizza.

8th Grade Welcomes Motivational Speakers
The message from both of them was that:
- No matter how difficult things may seem right now, thing will turn out okay at the end.
- There is always someone willing to lend a helping hand if you reach out.
- Real friends don't let other friends get in trouble. Real friends protect you always.
- Your decisions today can have a significant impact in your life later on.
SPEAK Week
This year marks the 12th Anniversary of SPEAK Week. Since 2012, the BYC has planned SPEAK (Suicide, Prevention, Education, Awareness and Knowledge) Week to promote awareness about mental health and break down the stigmas surrounding it. Colorado is seventh in the nation for suicide deaths according to the latest CDC data. The Brighton community has felt the impact of this statistic personally and profoundly with the 2011 death of Joshua Dillon, a Brighton High School senior. SPEAK has grown each subsequent year, both in the week’s activities, number of schools involved, and especially the SPEAK Walk that completes the week’s events.
Additionally, SPEAK has greatly impacted the way our
school district addresses teen mental health and suicide
awareness. Our project has received attention and interest from local and regional mental health experts because of its youth driven approach and success.
SPEAK Week (May 2nd-May 6th) starts with a week of educational activities with students and will culminate with a walk on May 6th, 2023. The walk helps bring awareness to the severity of teen suicide while also working to educate the community and break down the
stigmas which surround mental illness.
Chromebooks/Technology
Please take a minute to read the information below regarding electronic devices (Chromebooks). Chromebook Collection Check List
8th Grade:
As you may know, One2Web was designed with the intention that 8th and 12th grade students leave with the older devices at the end of the school year. The devices are aged out of the program, which enables families to have a device at home. This is a return on investment for the families in our district. WE WILL NOT BE COLLECTING CHROMEBOOK DEVICES FROM 8TH GRADERS:IMPORTANT: As you know, technology is an amazing tool that opens the world to our youth. A Chromebook, when properly used, provides our students the opportunity to learn about the world, interact with others, entertain themselves, and much more. Technology, however, can also be a very dangerous tool as it opens your house/family to the world. Technology goes both ways. CHROMBOOKS WILL NOT BE MONITORED BY OUR DISTRICT ONCE GIVEN TO THE 8TH GRADERS. They will be completely disconnected from our server and students will have the ability to utilize them in whichever manner they see fit. PLEASE MONITOR your child's use of technology and make sure they are being responsible. For resources on how to do this, please click HERE. If you do not want your child to keep the Chromebook, they can turn it in at the end of the year in the Library.
6th & 7th Grade
Chromebooks will be collected on May 19th. Students will be working on paper/pencil the last week of school.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out.
