Our Drive to 95- Attendance Reminders

One of our major focuses this year will be student attendance. Or goal is to have a 95% daily attendance rate at a minimum. We failed to reach 90% as a school every month last year. In April, we averaged 132 students absent daily unexcused and 1,852 total unexcused absences for that month. This is unacceptable. Our students cannot be successful if they are not here. Here are a few facts concerning attendance:

  1. Research states that if s students has two absences in August, they will become chronically absent. Students labeled chronically absent have an increased rate of dropping out. As you see, just two absences can start a trend.
  2. Students who miss 9 consecutive days will be withdrawn and require readmission through Student Relations.
  3. If your student arrives at 8:30 instead of 8:00 am daily, they miss over 100 minutes of school each week.

Please see our attendance protocols below:

  1. Any student arriving after 8:30 requires a parent to sign them in at the attendance office.
  2. Students with 6 absences will receive a social worker referral.
  3. Students with 3 tardies will receive lunch detail detention.
  4. Any student with over 8 absences will not be allowed to attend the prom.

It is extremely important that we get attendance right. As we drive for 95, we will need all hands on deck to turn this around. Our students deserve it. We can do this!

Annual Verification for 2023-2024

As we start a new year, it is important we have accurate contact information. Thank you to those families who have verified their contact information. We need all parents to update your address and contact information in Infinite Campus. If you currently have the Parent Portal, you can do that by clicking Annual Verification. If you do not have Parent Portal, you can contact Shenita Seidu at 678 676 6326. Please see instructions in English and Spanish below.

Chromebooks still being issued

We have distributed over 700 Chromebooks! Thank you parents for signing the Digital Dreamers Agreement. To receive a Chromebook, students must not owe any fees from previous Chromebook distributions and must have a current parent agreement on files. You can access the device agreement here.

PSAT October 11

Stone Mountain High will have PSAT Day on October 11 at school. This is an opportunity for students to take a practice SAT exam to receive valuable feedback and study information. The test is free for all 10th grade students. 9th and 11th grade students may test by paying $20 cash to Mrs. Tatum in the front office.

Parent Teacher Association Membership Drive

A reminder that we are a clear bookbag school. As an incentive to join our PTA, your child can receive a clear backpack with supplies when you pay the $10 annual membership fee (while supplies last). You can pay and sign up for PTA by visiting the school and asking to join. Thank you to the over 60 parents that joined at Open House. We are still in need of a Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. If you would like to serve as an officer, please contact Tonya Tatum at 678-676-6303.
