This Week's Highlights
Thanksgiving
As we head into the holiday season, our Lincoln staff has so much to be thankful for. We are grateful for the wonderful children that we get to spend our time with and learn from. They make every day a joyful one! We appreciate all of our Lincoln families and the many ways that they support the staff and students. Our parent volunteers were quite busy this past week preparing, organizing and running the Book Fair in our LRC, along with AVIC and our Friday Watch D.O.G.S. Students and families enjoyed our family literacy night which included the opportunity to shop for books and create in addition to seeing our drama club perform a readers theater of Skippy Jon Jones. We are thankful for opportunities like this that can only happen with the time and energy that our Lincoln community gives incuding both parents and staff. I am also very thankful to the Lincoln staff for creating these wonderful opportunities for our students through their hard work and dedication. As the saying goes, It takes a village.
TOYS FOR KIDS
In the main office, you will notice a toy collection box for the Jim Wheeler Toys for Kids Program. This program, serving in partnership with the Salvation Army, collects unwrapped toys to distribute to students in need within our community. For those wishing to contribute, please drop off an unwrapped toy to the toy drop box in the main office by Friday, December 7th.
Conferences
Thank you to all of the families that signed up for conferences next week. Teachers will be spending their weekends preparing for their conversations with parents. This is such a great time to come together and connect with the common purpose of supporting each student. We look forward to these two days! If you have some time and want to stop by to chat with me, please feel free to do that. If you want to ensure that I am available, you can call Mrs. Fick and she can schedule a time for us to talk.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your friends and families. If you are headed somewhere, safe travels. If you are staying in the area, enjoy the more relaxing pace and time with your family and friends. We look forward to seeing our smiling student faces on Monday, December 2nd!
Watch DOGS
Parent University: District 303 Parent University presents our second annual book study when we read "The Whole Brain Child" by Dr. Dan Siegel.
In this pioneering, practical book, Daniel J. Siegel, neuropsychiatrist and author of the bestselling book Mindsight, and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson demystify the meltdowns and aggravation, explaining the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures. The “upstairs brain,” which makes decisions and balances emotions, is under construction until the mid-twenties. Conversations will be based upon the book as well as supplemental workbook activities. Study sessions will be offered during both morning and evening times at the following locations:
Baker Community Center (101 S. 2nd Street, St. Charles)
Fox Ridge in the LRC (1905 Tyler Road, St. Charles)
Please register here by November 30 so we can order a book for you! Then let us know when you will pick up your book.

LOST & FOUND
Please take a moment and check out our Lost & Found items laid out in our main hallway on your way to or from conferences. Many items have been there for quite some time and need to be claimed by their rightful owners!
This is also a good time to remind you to label your child’s items with their name. We will be happy to deliver your students’ items to their classroom if their items are labeled and we know where to bring them.
SCHOOL YEAR CALENDARS
At its regular meeting last week, the D303 School Board approved calendars for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years. Please note several changes:
Parent-teacher conferences are now scheduled in October on the Thursday and Friday before Columbus Day
Thanksgiving week is a non-attendance week
School Improvement days will be two full days
They are still determining the arrival and dismissal times for next year but the order will be high school, elementary school and middle school. Specific times will be finalized prior to the winter break.
