Field Day
Field Day is on Friday, June 16th! It's a cherished tradition where students have a blast with games and activities while fun with their classmates! Thank you in advance for volunteering to help with stations. If you haven't done so yet, you can sign up to volunteer here.
Please remember that all volunteers must register, if they haven't already, as per Bellevue School District Policy. Let's hope for a sunny day!
Celebrating Juneteenth
Next Monday, June 19th is a federal holiday and marks the effective end of slavery on June 19th, 1865, about 3 years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It became a federal holiday in 2021, and we hope the day off will provide opportunity for you to have important conversations with your family about freedom. Here are some resources to learn and celebrate Juneteenth with your kids:
Monthly Safety Drill This Week
During a lockout, students are brought inside and all exterior doors are locked. Inside, classes continue, but staff maintain a heightened level of awareness in case there is a change in the situation.
Please talk with your student about preparing for emergencies and disasters. Encourage them to talk about their concerns and express their feelings. Emphasize that even though sometimes things happen that we may not expect, there are lots of things we can do to help us stay safe.
Device Collection Reminder
We will begin collecting all laptops and iPads to make sure all our technology is ready for Fall. Please send your students with their assigned device and any chargers or styluses back to school before June 16.
If your family has no other computer and you require a district laptop for use over the summer, you can pick up a loaner from Sammamish High School July 6th-29th Monday-Friday from 9am-12:30pm. These computers will be returned to their regular school in the Fall.
School Supplies for 2023-2024
Before the last day of school even gets here, we will start seeing school supply ads for the upcoming school year. At Medina, we strive to provide all basic school supplies (paper, pencils, glue, etc.) to students. If there are additional, optional items that a grade level suggests, this information will be posted on the Medina website for the summer. Additionally, teachers may request donation of items specific to projects or needs during the year, and this request will come directly from your child(ren)’s teacher.
Mental Health Resources for Families
Did you know that the BSD website contains a Mental Health Services section, which includes mental health resources for students and families. School administrators worked in partnership with support staff to strategize, align and provide access to this information in a user-friendly manner, to support students and families.
Students and families are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the content to better understand mental health topics including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse and suicide prevention. Students and families are encouraged to reach out to school counselors and MHAT counselors for additional mental health support.
