PARK PENCIL POINT NEWSLETTER
November 9, 2023
The mission of the Chardon Local Schools is we commit to high achievement for all students.
It's hard to believe, but winter weather is on the way. At Park, students go outside unless it is below 15 degrees, so they must be prepared each day. That means the following items should come to school daily: COAT, BOOTS, SNOW PANTS, HAT, GLOVES, SCARF, etc. The best way to send these items to school is in a reusable grocery bag. Marc's sells big ones that hold everything nicely and seem to last the season. PLEASE MARK EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME!!!
A few other things to mention:
We do not wear boots in the classroom, so be sure your child has indoor shoes to wear.
Students without the appropriate snow clothes will not be allowed to play in areas with snow, and will have to remain on the blacktop at recess.
Extra socks come in handy, so feel free to keep an extra pair in the snow gear bag.
Students must be able to dress themselves, which includes zipping coats and putting on gloves.
From the Principal Desk—
Hello Hilltopper Families:
I enjoyed talking to so many of you at conferences on Tuesday evening. Thank you for your continued support at home. It makes such a difference to your student’s success at school.
This week at Park the buzz was all about the axolotl names! The students had a chance to cast their vote for their favorite names. It was so fun to walk the halls and see the students stopped at the axolotl tank, discussing why their names should BE the winning names. Having the students vote on election day provided an opportunity for our teachers to engage in rich discussions about the importance of voting and having a respectful say in matters concerning them. They even received “I Voted” stickers afterwards! I was lucky to have the Chardon Police Department help me secure our ballots and escort them to the office before the official count! See below in the newsletter for the winning names!
I am looking forward to our Veterans Assembly tomorrow and honoring local veterans who are friends/family members of Park students. Our students will have an opportunity to meet these fabulous, courageous men and women and personally thank them for their service. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee

Students in Mrs. Tyson’s first grade class collaborated with each other to show teen numbers in many ways. They used math manipulatives, number lines, drawings, words and number racks to create posters of their teen number. All students contributed their ideas for how to make “ten and some more” and presented their completed posters to their classmates. Compliments were abundant as the students excitedly shared their creative approaches at showing 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19!
