Healthy Aves Protocol Reminder
Students who are diagnosed with COVID-19 or identified as close contacts will be provided access to educational materials & information while in self-isolation or quarantine. Just like last year, weekly guides will be made available on Blackboard so students can keep on pace while at home. These weekly guides will include links to instructional resources. Your child’s teacher(s) will be in contact with more information on continued support during their time away from school. You can expect communication from your child's teacher within 1 day of the quarantine communication.
PBIS Corner
There is still the buzzing, banging, and humming of construction, but our staff and students are getting settled in. Can you believe that our students have already earned over 30,000 Bee Bucks?! With all of these Bee Bucks, students can shop in classroom stores or be entered into classroom raffles. We also have a schoolwide raffle on the Friday morning announcements where 5 winners are randomly chosen. Our Symmes students are doing an awesome job following the 4 Bes at school. Thank you for reinforcing them at home too!
At-home follow-up:
Does your classroom have a store or raffle?
Do you know anyone who has been a winner in the schoolwide raffle?
Tell me how you earned a Bee Buck this week?
We are proud to announce:
Symmes Elementary School has been recognized for its success with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS involves teaching students expected behaviors in a consistent and positive way, modeling and acknowledging those behaviors and helping all students meet expectations and be successful. PBIS has been shown to improve student achievement, student behavior and school climate.
In 2015, Ohio PBIS Network first recognized schools that were model examples of strong PBIS. In 2021, Symmes Elementary School applied and earned the Silver level. We are one of 354 award-winning schools to be recognized at any level: Gold (34), Silver (70), or Bronze (233). Symmes Elementary School will be honored at the 2021 Ohio PBIS Showcase in conjunction with the Ohio Leadership Advisory Council (OLAC) virtual conference on December 9, 2021. The theme for the conference is Responsive, Reimagined and Resilient Leadership.

Reporting Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Incidence
In an ongoing effort to provide a safe learning environment, Sycamore is requesting parents, students, and staff to inform the administration of any perceived incidences of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.
Per the Sycamore Board of Education policy JFCF, harassment, intimidation, and bullying are defined as any provoked and intentional written, verbal, electronic, or physical act that a student has exhibited toward another particular student more than once and the behavior both:
1. causes mental or physical harm to the other student; and
2. is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for the other student.
To view the complete policy, visit www.sycamoreschools.org, under the Board of Education tab, scroll down to “Policies”, search for policy “JFCF” and “JFCG-P”.
Sycamore will do everything possible to address any complaints of harassment, intimidation, and bullying. We encourage students, staff, parents, and community members to report this type of behavior to the district if help is needed to solve a problem.
To report an incident of harassment, intimidation, and bullying:
1. Go to the district’s website, www.sycamoreschools.org or on the individual school’s website under “Bullying Prevention” to find the form.
2. “Report Bullying”
3. Fill the form online and submit it electronically.
4. Hard copies of this form are available in each of the schools.
Complete the hard copy of the report form and turn it in to the building principal. The building principal or designee will promptly investigate all reported incidents.
It is difficult to investigate reported incidences that are anonymously submitted. However, every effort will be made to maintain the confidentiality of the reporter. Deliberate false reporting of harassment, intimidation, and bullying is prohibited.
Dear Symmes Families-
Symmes Elementary will continue to participate in the Box Tops for Education (BTFE) program this school year. Here is how you get started:
1. Go to www.boxtops4education.com (or the app store and search Box Tops for Education) you can download the app onto your phone.
2. You will then set up a personal account (just list Symmes Elementary as the school).
3. Once you have completed your shopping, scan your receipt using the mobile app. The app will search for products and if you have any Box Tops purchases, it will automatically credit Symmes ten cents for each product.
If you do your shopping online and receive email receipts, you can still participate. Just forward your email receipt to: receipts@boxtops4education.com and Box Tops will credit Symmes by 1 business day.
Please share the app with family members: grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc.
I hope you are as excited as I am for what Box Tops can mean for Symmes Elementary! I am here to make our school’s Box Tops for Education program a success this year. If you have any questions, please email me at maryjo120@hotmail.com.
Thank you for your help!
