Highlights from Second Grade
Literacy
In Superkids we finished up Unit 3. We will have our end of unit test on Monday of next week. The lessons this week focused on the soft sound for c (as in nice) and the soft sound for g (as in giraffe). We have also had lessons on sequencing with time order words and editing in writing. The students still need reminders to start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark. Please make sure they are doing this at home whenever they do some writing.
In our Book Club this week we read Mercy Watson Fights Crime. There are other books in this series of books that your child might enjoy checking out at your local library. We will be reading another Mercy Watson book for our writing in our persuasive unit which will start after the winter break.
TumbleBooks is a program available through the Woodridge Public Library. They are testing to see if the program is used by our students. It will be available until at least March. Your student can find a link for this on our Goodrich home page under Resources-Students. Read books, play games, have fun!
Math
In math this week we have been working on money. Most of the students could use some extra practice counting money. This can be done by dumping out some change for your child to count - quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies - or by going on IXL to practice. We will practice telling time next week.
Sections to practice in IXL are:
Money - P.1, P.2, P.3, P.4, P.6, P.7, P.10, and P.14
Time - Q.2, Q.3, Q.4, Q.5, Q.6, and Q.8
Star Student
Kate was our Star Student this week. We are having Thursday presentations this month due to several conflicts on Fridays. Many of us already knew that Kate has two brothers at Goodrich, Kyle and Alex. Her favorite subjects in school are Art, Music, "and of course, learning from all of my teachers!"
Our next Star Student is . . . Connor.
