5 Great Things This Week At SESS
November 12th-16th, 2018
Mrs. Rowe's Class Goes Winter Walking!
Mrs. Rowe's grade 5/6 class went walking in the neighbourhood around SESS as part of their new outdoor education walking program. On one of their first trips, students visited artist Bonny Robert’s art studio where they watched a demonstration of paint mixing and wandered through her beautiful gallery. On another trip students explored 2nd and 3rd avenue, and Sparks Drive. If you have a great idea for one of their next walking trips, they would love to hear from you! Send your suggestions to arowe@sd53.bc.ca
Welcome to the Sparks Cafe!
Everyday Mr. Adoph and his B and C Block Cafeteria students feed both Cawston Primary and SESS for lunch. We are incredibly lucky to have a certified Red Seal Chef running our cafeteria program with his dedicated and capable team of students. Thank you to our cafeteria crew for providing us with awesome snacks and lunches on a daily basis! Check out the monthly menu in our school newsletter.
Wood and Canvas Canoe Restoration Project
For the past few weeks, students in Mr. Collins' woodworking class have been restoring a cedar frame canvas canoe that was pulled out of the dumpster and donated to the school. After a dedicated effort to strip, sand, varnish and patch the wooden frame, the students have now begun to work on the outer canvas covering. The progression in the canoe has been amazing and we can't wait to see what the finished project looks like!
Grade 8 Volleyball Teams Finish Successful Season
Congratulations to our grade 8 girls and boys volleytball teams for a successful season! Both teams finished 3rd place overall in the district playoff tournament. Thank you as well to Mr. Collins for coaching the girls and Mr. Adam for coaching the boys. The future looks bright for the volleyball program at SESS!

Governor General's Academic Medal Awarded
Congratulations to Katelyn Forner for winning the Governor General's Academic medal for the SESS graduating class of 2018. The Governor General's medal is awarded in the fall to the student graduating with the highest average from a high school. Katelyn is currently studying sciences at the University of Calgary, and we presented her the medal this week when she was home for Reading Break. Congratulations Katelyn!
