General News! Week of October 31st- November 4th
Happy Halloween Monday!
Today "Federal Impact Forms" were sent home with your child. The "School-Parent Compact" form( bright blue) that was sent home last week, should be signed by both you and your child and returned to school. Thank you for your help with getting both of these very important forms signed and returned to us!
Thanks to all who joined us for "McTeacher Night" at McDonald's in Kingsland ! We had a great turnout!
Our team will be taking a Field Trip on Friday, November 18th. We will be headed to Okefenokee Swamp Park (Obadiah's Okefenok) in Waycross, where we will be able to tie in many aspects of our curriculum. We are still finalizing the last minute details, but we wanted you to be aware ahead of time. Permission slips should be coming home this week. The cost will be $10 per student. If this creates a hardship for anyone, please let us know as soon as possible. This will be a great educational experience, and we would love for everyone to participate. With that being said students need to be aware that inappropriate behaviors at school during the next few weeks could exclude them from attending; we will be discussing this with them.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
Oct. 31st- Federal Impact Forms go home with students (These forms help provide a vital portion of our school's funding. Please sign and return them the following day. Thanks!)
Nov. 11th- Veteran's Day Holiday/ No School
Nov. 14th- Fall Picture Retake Day
Nov. 16th- 2nd Qt. Progress Reports go home
Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
In language arts:
This week we will begin to do some research into the Civil War Era, which will be the setting for our next novel study. This week students will be researching some of the battles and other historical events of the time. They will be sharing this information with their classmates in the form of radio broadcasts.
A new root word unit will be introduced this week: , , and . This unit ...I will post the StudyStack link for these in Google classroom. The quiz will be next Thursday.
Book 2 of the Independent (Choice) Reading for 2nd quarter is due by Thursday, November 17th. There are already a number of students who have already completed this, while others have not completed Book 1! Please take a minute to touch base with your student to see how they are coming...most just need to get through their first book successfully to see the benefits of this practice. Just a quick reminder that students have been asked to bring their books to school with them daily this quarter. We will focus part of our school time to this valuable practice, but this will not exclude the need for them to be reading at home.
I saw a lot more participation with TweenTribune this week, so hopefully this will become less painful, and maybe even interesting for them! This is due each Friday afternoon by 3pm. If your child does not have access to the internet at home, please ask them to take advantage of coming down to my room before school, or ask me to print out some articles for them. This is great practice, and an easy way to boost their reading grades!
Have a great week!
Social Studies- Mr. Salser
This week we are covering the Yazoo Land fraud case, how the states of Alabama and Mississippi were created from a large chunk of Georgia, and the Trail of Tears.
Math- Mrs. McKinney
Science- Mrs. Allen
This week in Science, we will continue exploring different forms of energy! Ask your child if they can tell you the difference between kinetic and potential energy, and give you some examples of each! That is what we worked on last week. Let’s have another awesome week! J
