A WORD FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MS. MUNGUIA.
JRLPs School Performance: Colorado Department of Education Measures
September 22, 2023
Dear Families,
Each school in Colorado is assigned an overall school performance rating every year based on student performance and growth on state assessments. Graduation rates and college matriculation are also considered for high schools. Following the assignment of performance ratings, each school is required to develop a Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) that outlines targets for performance outcomes and strategies that the school will implement to improve academic outcomes for students.
Based on our school’s performance and growth on the 2023 state assessments given last spring, our school earned a Priority Improvement Plan based on low-performance in the areas of CMAS, SAT, and Assessment Participation. Linked is the complete 2023 School Performance Framework report that describes how our school has been evaluated.
Our UIP will provide us with a focused improvement plan, including an analysis of student performance data and a detailed action plan. The plan must incorporate ideas and feedback from parents, be approved by the JeffCo Board of Education, and be submitted to the Colorado Department of Education on or before October 16th for review. To meet that deadline, our UIP will be developed according to the following timeline:
September 10-22: Our school’s collaborative committee will co-create goals that address our SPF (linked above)
September 22: Mrs. Mungiua will submit the proposal to our community superintendent, Mike Freeman
October 5: JRLP families and community are invited to attend our first School Accountability Meeting from 6-7pm. The PTSO meeting will immediately follow from 7-8pm. Both meetings will be at the following Google Meet link: meet.google.com/uum-rwda-kkd
At this time, we will gather input from families concerning the proposed plan.
You can learn more about Colorado’s school accountability system here: http://www.cde.state.co.us/accountability/stateaccountability
If you have any questions about our overall school performance rating or how you can get involved in our improvement efforts, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Kala Munguia
JRLP Principal
PLEASE HAVE YOUR STUDENTS ATTEND OCTOBER 2ND!!
October Count
Dear Jeffco Remote Learning Program (JRLP) families,
It’s official – October Count Day this year is Monday, October 2.
The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school on that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, so we encourage you to make sure your student comes to school that day.
The “count window” the state observes is from Monday, September 25 through Monday, October 9, but the most important student count day is Monday, October 2. Help us get an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day.
If your student will be absent on Monday, October 2 due to illness, please call our attendance line, [303-982-6996] to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on Monday, October 2.
Thank you for your support of [school name]. Every student counts!
Sincerely,
Kala Munguia
Principal
Atentamente,
Kala Munguia
Principal Advisory Group
Dear JRLP Families,
I hope this message finds you well. At JRLP we are committed to fostering a strong partnership between our school and our students' families. We believe that your valuable insights and perspectives can play a crucial role in shaping the future of our school and ensuring its accountability.
With this in mind, I am excited to announce the formation of our Principal Advisory Group. This group will serve as a platform for open dialogue and collaboration between our school's leadership and our dedicated families, with a specific focus on school accountability.
What is the Principal Advisory Group?
The Principal Advisory Group is an opportunity for family members to come together with the school's principal (that's me!) to discuss important matters related to our school's accountability. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about education and want to contribute to the continued success of our online learning community.
Why Join?
- Make an Impact: Your input and ideas can directly influence our school's policies and initiatives, ensuring they align with the needs and expectations of our students and families.
- Stay Informed: Gain deeper insights into our school's operations, goals, and strategies to help your family navigate the online learning environment more effectively.
- Connect with Peers: Collaborate with other dedicated family members who share your commitment to quality education.
How It Works:
- The group will meet quarterly (immediately before our PTSO meeting), allowing for regular updates and discussions on school accountability.
- Meetings will be conducted via Google Meet to accommodate our online learning environment.
- Topics may include curriculum improvements, assessment strategies, parent involvement, and more.
Who Can Join?
We invite all family members who are interested in contributing to our school's accountability efforts to participate. Whether you are a parent, guardian, or close relative of a student at JRLP your perspective matters.
How to Apply:
If you are interested in joining our Principal Advisory Group, please join our first meeting on October 5, 2023 at 6:00pm at the following meet link: meet.google.com/uum-rwda-kkd
We believe that together, we can enhance the educational experience for all our students and families. Your involvement in the Principal Advisory Group will help us chart a course for continued success and accountability at JRLP
Thank you for your dedication to our school community. We look forward to working closely with you in shaping a brighter future for our students.
Warm regards,
Kala Munguia Principal, JRLP

Warren Tech 8th Graders
Dear 8th Grade Parents & Guardians:
On Thursday, September 28 2023, your student will be taking a tour of Warren Tech
High School’s central campus. For more information about Warren Tech please see
additional information below.
Warren Tech is an extension of every Jefferson County high school and offers
academic, career and technical training and education in 36 different programs.
These programs prepare high school students with academic, career and technical
skills for college, employment and potential careers.
Most students at Warren Tech are high school juniors and seniors as students must
be 16 in order to attend. Programs range in length from two to four semesters.
Credits earned at Warren Tech count toward graduation and qualify as academic
credits and electives under the Colorado Commission on Higher Education College
admission requirements. Most of Warren Tech’s programs also provide the
opportunity for students to earn college credit through the Colorado Community
College System.
It is recommended that interested students talk to their counselors early in their
high school careers regarding attending Warren Tech. Careful course planning will
ensure that students can meet high school graduation requirements and also take
advantage of Warren Tech’s opportunities.

Outdoor Lab 6th Grade
Parents of 6th Graders! Did you know…
- If you are concerned about your student’s safety while at Outdoor Lab, you should know–Outdoor Lab is a program that has been in Jeffco for decades, and students experience a safe, supervised environment throughout the DURATION of their trip. Just like all Jeffco teachers, ALL staff, including interns, are rigorously trained and screened before they are allowed to have ANY contact with students. There are always watchful eyes around, and our JRLP teachers also attend during the four-day trip to ensure maximum safety for our students!
- If have have concerns about the Outdoor Lab fee ($300), there are a few things you can do:
- Reach out to Karen Parker, our principal’s secretary to set up a payment plan stretched out throughout the school year – you do NOT have to pay all at once!
- If payment is a hardship, it is the commitment of Outdoor Lab that ALL STUDENTS CAN GO, regardless of financial situation! If the payment is a hardship, please reach out so that we can get your fee waived!
- Ms. Shapiro and Ms. Acosta believe STRONGLY in the value of this program. So much so, in fact, that Ms. Shapiro has sent BOTH of her children to Outdoor Lab over the past three years, and Ms. Acosta’s daughter will be attending this year! We believe in the importance of this experience for your student and for our own!
- Please reach out to Ms. Shapiro at any time to text or chat about your concerns. And know that Ms. Shapiro will be on site for the duration of this year’s trip! If you need to check in to find out how your child is doing, she will gladly update you.
The deadline for consent forms is coming up fast – we do hope that we can eliminate ALL barriers so that your student can join us. Ms. Shapiro’s cell #: 720-588-3518.
