Happy Friday!

Just one more week of school until Spring Break! I am hopeful the weather cooperates with your plans. I will be hiking and exploring the area in and around Zion's.

A huge thanks to all who were able to support our Book Fair. Scholastic provides schools with credits based on book fair sales. The credits are used to purchase books for the library. We had almost $5,000 in sales which should provide us with a nice pile of books.

We are still looking for some donations for our Field Day Blow Out! We are in need of cans of soda and small / medium prizes for our game booths. Prizes are like those you would get in a bag at Zurchers or Oriental Trading. Packs of bubbles from the Dollar Store are also a big hit.

Please keep up on your emails and social media if possible as these are the first methods of communication with parents.

Stay safe and healthy and enjoy the weekend!

1st Grade Power Hour and Next Year's Plan

A couple months ago we implemented "Power Hour" in 1st grade. During this hour each and every student is in small group literacy instruction for 20 minutes. Students rotate between small group, Heggerty/Read Aloud and writing - three rotations at 20 minutes each = Power Hour. This is in addition to the small group instruction they receive in regular rotations.

During Power Hour students meet in a group of 4-6, in the classroom, with a para-educator, reading interventionist or teacher to receive explicit reading instruction according to their skill level.

We have been analyzing progress monitoring data and the results make our heart happy! Because of the success of this program and thanks to our Trustlands Committee, we are expanding it to P90 next year (90 minutes) in 1st AND 2nd grade. The new P90 program will provide every 1st and 2nd grade student with and additional 30 minutes of small group reading instruction, Monday - Thursday. We are SO excited for our Bullfrogs to have this additional small group reading support.

Stations

One of the key elements of the Bridge model is the use of stations. Stations are part of rotations where students in grades 2 - 6 rotate through small group instruction, computer aided instruction and stations. Stations are supervised by para-educators and the work is differentiated based on the student's skill level. Stations are comprised of collaborative and independent activities.

In 1st grade, stations are in larger groups and are comprised of Heggerty/read aloud, writing and Power Hour small group reading. In kindergarten stations are part of a rotation where students meet in small group with their teacher and para-educator and then work in stations with peers.

Each grade has an accountability system in place in which students are rewarded for completing their station work. Talk to your student or your child's teacher to find more information about the stations that are part of your child's day at Bridge.

Puppies on the Portico

It's spring and lots of people like to take their pups with them. We LOVE pups too. However, we do not love pups under the portico or on the sidewalks when students are present. Your cute little ball of fur could accidentally nip at another animal or a child. We have students who are fearful of dogs - big, little and in between. We also have students with allergies. PLEASE leave your pups at home or in your vehicle when you come to school to pick up your students.
