My best leadership experience
an activity to prepare you to share your story
Hello GLE Participants!
I hope each of you have enjoyed connecting to each other for the first activity. I have already received a confirmation for a visit from one team :) Remember, if your team cannot set up a visit in the next couple of weeks, the GLE staff will reach out to our connections and ensure your team has a visit. However, this is an excellent activity for you to try and connect to those who share your interests and learn from them.
I have another short activity I would like you to complete before the program begins. This one is an individual piece.
In order to prepare us for our time together, I want each of you to take some time to reflect on your leadership stories and write down your best leadership experience (see instructions below). We will be sharing our experiences and I want to make sure all of you are prepared so we can gain the most during our time together.
My best leadership experience assignment:
1. Recall a time when you did your very best as a leader. Think about a time when you set your own standard of excellence as a leader. This experience can come from school, work, sports team, clubs, religious group or involvement in the community. It can be from the past or happening right now.
Write a brief description of your experience. When did this occur? Who was involved? What were you trying to accomplish? What challenges did you face?
2. Thinking about the experience you just described, what are the three to five actions you took as a leader that made a difference? What specifically did you do to mobilize your group or team to get extraordinary things done?
So please think about the following and email your story and answers to Lupita, lupita@viaprograms.org by February 5th.
I look forward to learning about your leadership challenges and triumphs!
