News from Mrs. Kruse
We are off to a great start!! Thank you to our EMS families for supporting your student during remote learning. I know there is so much uncertainty in the world right now. It is encouraging to see our students and teachers working together to make sure everyone is getting the education they need while we are in remote learning. Please remind your child to keep a positive attitude, stay organized, set personal goals and maintain a daily routine for learning to stay on track for success.
Please read on for important dates and events taking place at East Middle School.
Sincerely,

Counselor's Corner
Greetings East Middle School students and parents!
As the school counselors that work with East Middle School students, we’d like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you.
Hello, my name is Mr. Sokoloski and I am the counselor for students whose last names begin with the letters A through K. This is my 15th year with East Middle School and my 21st year as a middle school educator. Some things I like to do outside of school include bike riding, gardening, & trips to northern Michigan with my family when we have the chance.
Hello, my name is Mrs. LaFleur and I am the counselor for students whose last names begin with L through Z. This is my 22nd year working at a middle school in Grand Blanc. I live in Ortonville with my husband and two teenage children. In my spare time, I enjoy working in my yard, golfing, skiing, and watching my kids play sports.
Please know that your counselors are here to help even during this time of remote learning. We can be reached by phone or e-mail. You can also keep up to date with us by joining our google classrooms.

Positivity Project
POSITIVITY PROJECT
During these trying times it is more important than ever that we continue our focus on our district's commitment to the Positivity Project. The Positivity Project was started in the Grand Blanc School District in 2017 and continues to be a proud initiative in our community. We will be offering resources for our families to work on together to keep the momentum going strong. See below for this month's focus.
We recently released P2 for Families, which will help connect P2 to students' homes through 1 quote, 1 video, and 3 questions. This is designed to be easy for parents to use to lead conversations around the importance of character strengths and positive relationships. It will be differentiated for grades Pre-K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Most of these webpages are password protected and the password (very simple) is: P2
Daily Attendance Counts!
Reminder, classes begin at 9am! You might even suggest to your student to log in 5 minutes early and wait for their teacher, so they are not late for class.
Families, please be reminded that during remote instruction, your student is expected to be present every "hour" of each day. Students that do not report for class (during remote or face-to-face instruction) will be marked absent. Additionally, it is important that students are logged into each class with their GBCS student account for attendance verification.
If you know your child will be absent from school, please call the attendance desk at EMS.
