Winter Concert a Snowy Success
Thanks to Kate Sucheki for the submission.
Another successful concert for the Groton Dunstable Regional High School’s music department took place this Tuesday seeing performances from the Concert Band, Chorus, Drum Corps, Jazz Band and Chamber Choir. Outside, Groton Dunstable Regional High School student’s art was showcased. Concert Band serenaded the audience with songs ranging from a march to middle eastern. The Chorus changed the game with a rhythmic piece involving claps and beating on their chests. Drum Corps riled up the crowd before intermission. When the concert returned, Jazz Band played well known pieces such as “Sing, Sing, Sing,” as well as intense Latin. Soloist Lilly Harris from Chamber joined the Jazz Band for “My Funny Valentine.” To close off the night Chamber filled the PAC with classical dissonance and new age funk. For seven members of Chamber, this was their first school concert with the choir. One new addition, Chelsea Callahan said “I’m so excited to be able to perform with such an amazing group of people, we all work really hard and I’m glad to see everything come together.” The Choir is also full of seniors who will have this concert as their last ever Groton Dunstable Regional High School Winter Concert, as well as their last school concert before the Choir goes to Spain in April of 2020.
Upcoming fundraisers include busking around town, Open Mics, and a concert in Devens with the renowned Livingston Taylor on April 5th 2020. The Groton Dunstable Regional High School’s Music Honors Society would like to thank the community's continued support of our local program.
G-D Student Council Hosts Service Fair
Thanks to Student Council President and Senior, Annika Kuchel for the submission.
This Thursday was the Student Council’s Community Service Week Fair. Local volunteer organizations came to the high school to share their work with the students. Booths were set up in the front commons during lunch. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to talk with ambassadors from the volunteer groups and get contact information. The holiday season is a great time to give back, but getting in contact with these volunteer groups will help GD students give back to the community year round.
This year seven groups came to the fair; including Rivercourt Residences, Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, Habitat For Humanity, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua, Nashoba Shooting Stars, Lowell Humane Society, and the GD Volunteer Club.
The fair was made possible by the hard work of Claire Schwartz (group leader), Joseph Wang, Paige Carleton, Francesca Cronin, Caroline Keegan, Nithila Krishnakumar, Aidan Cook, and myself.
Congratulations to our new NHS members.
On the night of November 26, twenty-six GD juniors and seniors were inducted into the National Honor Society for their relentless hard work in and out of the classroom to improve our community. The ceremony emphasized the four pillars which the society stands on; character, service, leadership, and scholarship. Each one of the inducted students consistently demonstrates these core values, along with the core values of the high school, to help promote a healthy working environment for all students in the high school to flourish. The students joining National Honors Society have already risen to the challenge of being role models in the school, and setting a good example of balance between academics, extra-curricular activities, and service to their community. National Honor Society gained another twenty-six honorable students who will work cooperatively with the existing group on new projects that will improve the lives of individuals in our community.
