La Salle Family Update (7-12)
January 20, 2023
Friday January 20, 2023
Dear La Salle Families,
We are quickly approaching the mid-point of the school year. Unfortunately, this also represents a point in time that sees significant changes in staff. We are most grateful to the following teaching staff as they transition to new schools for second semester, and are hopeful that they return to us in the future:
Adam Bonsall NDSS
Sophia Fabiilli BSS
Evan Jackson SHS
Emily Klaassen FSS/KSS
A more permanent departure is Meriah Moodie, a highly valued Educational Assistant who has had roles in both intermediate and secondary classes. Meriah’s contributions extend beyond the classroom as well. She has been the Head coach for Field Hockey for several years and has always chipped in, when called upon.
Goodbyes are never easy. However, we have one additional person leaving us at the end of the semester and it will be very hard to do this goodbye justice. Michelle Sousa has been a VP at La Salle for the past seven and a half years having come from an elementary background. In this time, has had a tremendous impact on the experience of our students and staff. Her warmth and caring, and attention to detail have made her the “go to person” for so many La Salle families over the years. Michelle greatly values the importance of graduation and has been able to support thousands of students through graduation at La Salle. Although, we will miss her smiling face around the building on a daily basis, we know she will be back, periodically, to keep us in line and check on “her people.” Michelle will be joining the administration at Kingston Secondary School and Vanier Intermediate. We wish Michelle continued success in her future pursuits!
We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome the following new staff to LISS for second semester:
Jen Grasse Vice Principal
Omid Aghamirian Math/Science
Mike McCourt Music
We would also like to welcome back Monica Vico to the Science department.
Sincerely,
Brent Pickering,
Principal

Mental Health Support
There are many community organizations, including The Maltby Centre, that offer a variety of resources to support students and families. The Maltby Centre (https://maltbycentre.ca/) provides mental health and autism services to children and youth, and works with clients in schools, homes, and other locations.
Other supports include:
We continue to see many students who struggle to safely and respectively use social media. Please monitor your student's phone usage, especially at night. Many students admit to staying up quite late each night, and therefore coming to school quite tired. Thank you for your vigilance and helping your student get the most out of their day.
School Advisory Council
We remind everyone that we welcome members to join us at each meeting. Our next one is February 21st at 6:30 p.m.
Newly elected council for 2022/23:
Chairs: Stephanie Saunders
Secretary: Stephanie Gratto
Much appreciation to this team for their volunteer time in supporting our school!
