MRE Update
September 22, 2022
School Council
The MRE school council is a school-based representative body that is composed of the principal, parents, teachers, and community members. School Councils help improve outcomes for students by collaborating with and advising the building principal on a variety of subjects including: school policies, the school improvement plan, developing a shared vision and goals for the school, and the site-based budget.
The Mary Rowlandson School council is in need of one more parent member. If you are interested in serving on the MRE School Council please let Mrs. Frommer know. If there is more interest than available positions, then Mrs. Frommer will provide the names of those interested to the PTO. A vote will then be held through the PTO to determine the new council members. School Council meetings are typically held the third Thursday of each month at 4:00.
We understand that schedules change, however same day changes tend to cause confusion and in some cases anxiety for students. Teachers have limited access to email. It can be difficult getting the message to them. In addition, each time we call the classroom, we are interrupting their lessons and often classes are in alternate locations. Therefore we ask that you make same day changes for emergency situations only. We appreciate your assistance and understanding with this.
Returning Student Registrations
PAST DUE - If you have not yet submitted, please complete ASAP
All families with students returning to MRE from the previous school year should have already received an email regarding Returning Student Registration. Please click the link in that letter (as it has a code specific to your child) and update their registration online. You will be asked to verify your address, emergency contacts and will be asked a few annual questions that require your prompt response. Unless you have moved within town and have a new address, you will not need to provide any documentation for residency, etc. Registration is DUE BY Sept.9th! Thank you!
Celebration of Religious Holidays
The months of September and October bring the celebration of religious holidays for some families in our community. Rosh Hashanah is celebrated on September 26th and 27th. Yom Kippur is celebrated on October 5th and Diwiali on October 24th. The school district has a specific policy related to all religious holidays. It states:
“We recognize that in our communities there are diverse cultural, ethnic, religious and social traditions which should be understood through educational practice. We shall recognize and honor our differences, not ignore them. Students and staff will be encouraged to appreciate and accept ethnic and religious diversity. We shall be respectful of the beliefs and practices of others.” Nashoba Religious Holiday Protocol
The policy also states that no student is required to complete school work while they are celebrating a holiday. Students who take time off for religious observances are not expected to make up daily homework assigned and no tests, quizes or major assignments should take place on a day of religious observance.
At any time this year, if your child will miss school due to a religious observance, please notify Mrs. Frommer so that we can accommodate for their absence.
Reporting a student Absent or Tardy
To report a student absent or tardy, please send one email to both the teacher and MREattendance@nrsd.net. The teacher, the office and the school nurse will receive this same email and everyone will be on the same page.
If you prefer to call, please call the Nurse's line at: (978) 365-5870 or the Main Office at: (978) 368-8482.
It is important that we know if your child is expected tardy or will be absent. We will be calling you and possibly your emergency contacts, if we do not hear from you as we are concerned about the safety and welfare of your child.
