Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
February 3, 2019
We who have lived in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago are quite the resilient people! This snow and cold usually don't get to us... but unfortunately this past week was a little brutal! When we were only able to attend two of the five school days this past week, you know the weather was dangerous! Thankfully it seems that weather has passed for now... so we can get back to the important work we do on a daily basis!
Although our Catholic Schools Week activities may have been interrupted, it does not mean that we do not continue to be mindful of and live out our vocation of being Catholic School Educators. Let us pray that Jesus provides us the graces necessary to continue his work to reach our students and be living examples to them in all that we do and say.
A big thank you to our SIP Team for being so flexible and taking time out in the middle of the day this past Tuesday to meet and make some critical and timely decisions for our school. Thank you, also, to those who subbed for the team members' classes. It truly takes a team to accomplish these tasks! Your department heads will be sharing some of the important information with you during Tuesday's late start.
Other exciting things that occurred this past week include...
- Our Chess Team qualified for State
- Several students participated and presented in a LEAD conference in Washington, DC
- Our Wrestlers win the regional title for the second year in a row
It was a short, but sweet week!
Looking ahead...
Back to business! Can you believe that Monday is Quarter 3 midterm? This means we have to make sure that all grades are up to date and you have inputted ample formative and summative grades so that all students are very clear of the progress they have made during this quarter. It is an important point in the quarter... helping students realize whether they have been successful in understanding the material they have been expected to learn up to this point or not. Hopefully, there will be some connections between teachers and students for those students who have been struggling up to this point, to strategize and develop goals and a plan in order to successfully navigate to the end of this quarter. Thank you for all you do to keep our students on track!
Our February Late Start (this Tuesday) will begin in the cafeteria at 7:30 am. Please be prompt. We will be reviewing some changes that you will be seeing in the 2019-20 Curriculum Guide. After that, you will be able to go to your PLC rooms and continue your important work on Curriculum Alignment. Click here for the agenda.
Wednesday we will have our second to last Extended Homeroom. In this session, mentors will be working with underclassmen as they prepare to register for the 2019-20 classes.
Thursday brings our second annual IDEA Class MVP Pitch Day! This year the pitches will be held in room 220. Students enrolled in IDEA will be out of their classes Thursday for periods1 through 7. Our student business teams will be pitching to an executive board as these community/business experts determine the funds each business will receive in order to develop their prototype for the product they are developing. If you know any sophomore or junior who might be interested in watching the pitches during either period 3 or 4/5, send them to see Mrs. Diamond in Guidance and she will sign them up to come watch the MVPs!
Finally, several students will be departing after 7th period on Thursday, as they travel to Chicago for the Model United Nations field trip. These students should be checking in with their teachers to ensure that they are aware of what they will be missing in your class during their absence. We will also be cheering out our Chess Team at the end of the day as they go to state for a second year!
There are so many wonderful things happening at Marian! Thanks to each of you for playing such an intergal part in the recognition and formation of each student's individual gifts & talents and allowing them to reach their fullest potential!
Have a wonderful week...

HELP SAVE A LIFE ~ GIVE BLOOD THIS TUESDAY!
If a student is giving blood during your class, students will be given a pass, as it takes about 20 - 30 minutes to take the blood and ensure that the donor is rehydrated and in good condition to return to their normal daily activities afterwards.
If you want to give blood, please try to sign up during your plan times or before classes begin. There are still quite a few time slots available!

Because this is one of the four inservice days, you will be required to attend. When the date gets closer, we will be providing you information on how to check in at the convention.
