Main Purposes
It controls the Coast Guard, the Border Patrol the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Customs Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and many other agencies.
Mission Statement: To secure the nation from the many threats we face.
History
This was created in 2002 because of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
My best friend and mentor George W. Bush created homeland Security.
Jeh Johnson
Secretary Johnson is the fourth secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He was sworn in on December 23, 2013. Before working at the DHS Johnson was a general counsel for the Department of Defense. Johnson's main job as the Secretary is to counter terrorism and strengthen the nations security. He is also in charge of securing and managing the borders while facilitating trade and travel.

This money is used to protect the country and keep the bad boys out.
CURRENt issuesssssss
One current issue the DHS is facing is cyber attacks. Everyday our government and individual citizens are getting valuable data stolen by other governments and individuals. It is the DHS's job to train people to help us defend our self in cyber space.
Another current issue is immigration. The DHS has responsibility to help make a better immigration system and help keep out any dangerous persons.
