A Strong Start to the Year!
Happy October! We are entering our fifth week of school, and things are going well! Students have done a great job learning school routines, following safety guidelines, and rebuilding stamina for full days of important learning. We appreciate our families’ support as we settle in!
We enjoyed seeing families in person and on Zoom at our Sept. 29 Curriculum Night. Initial attendance data indicates a stronger turnout than in past years, and we are excited to build on this. This month, there are lots of ways for your to be involved:
- Attend the Oct. 6 Let's Connect session -- details are below. This is an important way for school and district leaders to learn what you think about your child's experience at school.
- Come to the first PTA General Meeting of the year -- see the calendar section. I also encourage you to join PTA! PTA is planning two fun events in October: a movie night on Oct. 27, and the book fair during conference week.
- Join us on Oct. 17 at 6:00 p.m. for our Watch D.O.G.S. kick-off event! Watch D.O.G.S. is a program that brings volunteers into schools for a day -- or more! Traditionally a program for dads and other father-figure relatives, we are eager to welcome ANYONE!
- Information is coming soon on how you can sign up for a fall conference with your child's teacher during the week of Oct. 31-Nov. 4. This is a great opportunity to learn more about how your child is doing, and about how you can partner with our staff to support learning at home.
Did you know that each week, your child learns and practices important social-emotional skills through lessons from our district's Second Step curriculum? You can learn more about the program here, and you can also ask your child's teacher for a code that will let you access additional resources. In the first unit, students in all grade levels learn how to develop a growth mindset and apply research-based goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives. This unit’s content helps create classrooms that are connected and encouraging by helping students set and achieve collective and personal goals and learn from challenges and mistakes. You can reinforce at home by asking them about those topics.
Thank you for following our arrival and dismissal procedures. We've noticed a few areas that still need a little extra attention:
- Please pull as far over to the right when waiting along View Drive at dismissal.
- The south parking lot is only for staff, buses, and families issued a parking pass by their teacher to accommodate special needs.
- If your kindergartener rides the bus, don't forget that they are required to be met at the stop by an adult after school.
One quick reminder: We don't celebrate Halloween at Lowell, so please support by making sure your child does not wear a costume to school on the 31st.
Have a great month, and please be sure to reach out with any questions or needs!
Mrs. Kelley, principal

You are invited to connect with the Region One Regional Superintendent, Pete Misner, to engage in conversation about back to school, and to provide feedback to help us improve. We want to hear from you, and hope you can attend this in-person meeting at Madison Elementary School to share your thoughts. Questions that will be posed:
- What are the academic needs your student may have?
- What does student achievement mean to you?

Library with Mr. Raymond
In the library, we have been working on book care and setting up routines. We want to keep our library books safe. Here are our rules to help!
- Keep your books in a safe place (backpack).
- Keep your books safe from little brothers and sisters.
- Keep your books safe from your pets.
- No eating while you’re reading!
- If there is an issue with the book, let Mr. Raymond (Book Doctor) know.
Please help your student bring back their books every week, even if they are not finished. Instead of turning them into the classroom basket, they should keep them and bring them to the library when their class is scheduled.
Questions or concerns? Please feel free to e-Mail me at rraymond@everettsd.org. Phone calls during the school day are hard because they take me away from my students. You can leave a message and I will return your call: 425-385-5308.
P.E. with Mrs. Neyens
In physical education in October, our main focus will be catching and throwing. We are going to work on those skills and use them in fun games! We also will be completing FitnessGram in Grades 3-5. This is used to assess fitness levels so we can create goals to improve over the year. We will assess strength and muscle endurance with push-ups and forearm plank, and cardio endurance with the pacer test.
S.T.E.A.M. with Ms. Johnson & Ms. McHargue
This month our focus is on building teamwork through engineering design challenges. We will also be working on some fun fall-themed challenges later this month. Students will begin learning the steps in the engineering design process as well as about different types of engineering. Our goal is to have students learn important skills such as communication when working together in order to be successful. They will also learn how to grow from making mistakes. We are enjoying getting to know all of our classes! Mrs. Johnson is here on Mondays, Tuesdays and some Fridays, and Mrs. McHargue is here Wednesdays, Thursdays and some Fridays.
Attendance Matters!
