Principal's Message

September 17, 2021

Dear Walnut Hills High School Families,

Today marks the end of Midterm Week for the first quarter. Please take a moment to review your child’s progress so far this year with him or her. It is always helpful to ask students how they feel about their grades and what they might want to do differently in the second part of the quarter, which ends on October 15. Conference Night for the first quarter is coming up on Thursday, September 30, 5-8 pm. Teachers will be sharing conference information in the upcoming weeks. We are grateful for your involvement in your child’s education and the chance to partner with you.

This week I received some excellent news about the school’s 2022 National Merit Semifinalists. Congratulations to the Class of 2022 National Merit Semifinalists:

Julia Berman, Justin Chan, Blaise Colberg-Harding, Katherine DiPaola, Maxwell Fairman, John Fox, Lillian Johnson, Husna Khan, Ainsley Lauer, Benjamin Liu, Claire Meng, William Menz, Lowell Meyer, Daniel Murray, Corina Phalen, John Reed, and William Stoffregen

Each year, the National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability. Over 1.5 million students nationwide entered the program, and approximately 16,000 were named Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. This is a tremendous accomplishment for the students, their families, and the teachers who guided them.

Sincerely,

John Chambers

Announcements

Parents, we need your help, and your child may need your guidance! Over the past few weeks, a new challenge has emerged on Tik Tok; it is known as the “devious lick” challenge. Students are encouraged to document themselves stealing or destroying items at school and posting it on Tik Tok. Please talk to your children about the consequences your student will face for vandalism or theft. We take this seriously and will provide consequences for any student who damages school property.

important survey - please complete!

Parenting is tough work, especially with teenagers! Walnut Hills High School is partnering with IN5 to plan some parent information sessions. Please take a few minutes to share with us what topics would be most helpful. This is a very short survey, and your input will help us plan the most useful programs. Thank you! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DMTW88M

Want to be part of the rewarding work of Walnut Woods? Walnut Woods is a newly designated Cincinnati Park located right outside our school's front doors, between Sulsar Avenue and Victory Parkway. Students have been working hard to make this 10 acres of woodlot into a habitat restoration area and accessible land lab for WHHS. We hope that our neighbors in the Evanston community will find joy in using the new trail system as well! Here are all the details about how to help. The next volunteer day is September 18.
