Blended, Ch. 10, Discover Your Way to Success
Three conditions must be met if innovation is to take hold in a school:
All the important details must be identified, and implementers must understand what each detail is and why it is important for success.
The plan must make sense to each implementer in his/her world view.
- Outside forces must be somewhat predictable and stable as the innovation takes place.
Innovation often means launching something that is unpredictable. Discovery-driven planning is the best approach to use in these ciricumstances and is comprised of four steps:
- Develop SMART goals for desired outcomes.
- Rank order the assumptions being made that must be true for your desired outcomes, including how confident you are that they are necessary for success.
- Develop, then implement a plan to learn more about these assumptions and if they can reasonably be met.
- Determine checkpoints to check your progress and to decide if you need to alter the innovation, or even scrap it.
