Tiger Tracks
Parent Newsletter - Issue #275 - March 29, 2020
Dear Tiger Family,
This past week our teachers have embraced new learning in a short amount of time as they plan and prepare to launch online engagement through virtual classrooms in Schoology. It is as if we are getting ready for a new, "first day of school" tomorrow. The same feelings of excitement and anticipation when teachers welcome students to their classroom for the first time are present. Teachers want to create the best learning environment possible in their Schoology course to inspire and equip students academically and emotionally during this unprecedented time. Nothing will compare to the face to face instruction that occurs within the walls of Travis High School. However, we know our teachers are committed to providing effective online instruction because their passion for teaching has not changed. The Travis Way has not changed.

A Message from THS Librarian Mrs. Spina
We have many ebooks and audiobooks available through our library catalog. Most of these are single user access, meaning that they can only be read by one student at a time. This is particularly true for new titles. I'm working on a how to video that you can share with students. To access ebooks, students (and teachers 🙂) will log in to the catalog with their regular username and password.
This is the best option I've seen for having multiple students reading the same book, especially if you want access to new books. JLG will allow many students to access the same book. They have both ebooks and audiobooks. JLG focuses on new books and also adds new books each month. There are a variety of topics and reading levels covered and the books are specifically selected for children and teens. They also don't require any sign up or subscription. Student just click and read!
Here is info from the JLG website.
I've also attached a helpful how to video from the librarian at Dulles HS.
Scribd is an online ebook service that offers a 30 day free trial. This would require students to sign up, but does not require credit card information. There are many, many books and audiobooks available. This service would include adult content as well.
Preview the books available here.
Audible is also free for the time being. Audible is the audiobook platfrom from Amazon. These are exclusively audiobooks.
Most of you are probably already aware of Project Gutenberg. There are thousands of books available for free here. They are all books that are no longer under copyright in the US, so this would be a great place for your students to access classics.
