Return to School Weekly Update From Dr. Sue
Dear TTSD Community,
We are all pleased to see the health metrics in the greater metro area continuing to decline. My sincere thanks to our community for their dedication to practicing the safety protocols that will assist in our plans to reopen schools. My updates to you for this week center on our continued progress in bringing our students back into our buildings for in-person instruction.
Our elementary team has created a reentry timeline that principals will be communicating out to families. You can find that information here. Highlights include when elementary families will hear about any changes to their child’s teacher, updated information regarding no school and conference days, as well as a targeted date for PreK-1 grades returning to in-person hybrid instruction.
We continue to expand our Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) offerings for identified students. Next week we will begin small cohorts at the middle and high school levels and plan to serve identified elementary students beginning the week of February 16. Read full message HERE
Information Regarding Elementary Return to In-Person
- Elementary teachers and staff will be receiving important safety training and getting their classrooms ready for safe and socially-distant hybrid instruction.
- If your student is assigned a new teacher, there will be a virtual meet and greet before students are back in the building. More details will be shared when we have that information.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please reach out to your school principal or office.
For more information, please visit the Elementary Reopening presentation and our safety video created to help our students see what returning to school will look like.

Invitation to Participate on the Bias Incidents and Hate Speech Oversight Committee
In June 2020, the Tigard-Tualatin School District Board of Directors passed a Resolution condemning racism and committing to being an anti-racist school district. During the implementation of this resolution, a Bias Incidents and Hate Speech policy was created prohibiting hate speech and directing the necessary Solutions and Healing actions.
A policy creating a permanent oversight committee was also created to monitor the development and implementation of the District’s Education, Accountability, Solutions, and Healing (EASH) Plans. The Bias Incidents and Hate Speech Oversight Committee shall have at least seven community members appointed by the Board. The District is initially looking for candidates to fill vacancies for 1 and 2-year terms. Committee members may reapply to serve additional terms.
The Committee is designed to include individuals representing teachers, parents/caregivers, administrators, and students and representing all three building levels: elementary, middle, and high school and no fewer than half of the Committee shall be individuals who identify as members of historically marginalized and underserved communities. More details and application.
