OBOB Signups Open Now
Parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders: hopefully you and your child saw the informational flyer in last week's Friday Folders about Oregon Battle of the Books, a fun and engaging reading competition that is run by the Forest Hills PTO. Please start talking to your child about whether they wish to participate and encourage them to talk to friends and form a team of 3-5 kids at school.
New to Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)? We will host an informational meeting for parents and kids to ask questions and learn more after school on Tuesday, October 15 @ 2:45 p.m. in the library.
Click the OBOB Sign Up button to register your team, find a book list, and get more info on OBOB. More information can also be found on the FH PTO website.
Please contact Kristy Cory at kristycory@gmail.com with any questions or concerns before the meetings.

School Supplies for Ms. Cumpston's Class
Please help us fill a barrel of much needed books, games, and school supplies for our beloved retired Forest Hills teacher, Theresa Cumpston! As many of you know, Ms. Cumpston moved to Guyana, South America where she is now teaching in an elementary school. Below is a link to a list of her needs. Used items are preferred! If you have an item/book that's not on the list but you think fits the general idea of what Theresa is needing, please feel free to include it. Items will be accepted in the Forest Hills front office until Monday, October 14.
Please contact Jane Rubey at 503.314.7088 or jrubey@hotmail.com with any questions.

Dyslexia Awareness Month, Assistive Technology
Technology is changing and improving the school experience for students with dyslexia. Text-to-speech and speech-to-text software, calculators, and note-taking apps are common examples of “assistive technology”. Many of us enjoy audiobooks for pleasure reading, but audiobooks also can serve as a vital piece of assistive technology for those with learning differences such as dyslexia.
With audiobooks, everyone can acquire new vocabulary, expand their knowledge and love of books, and enjoy complex or intriguing storylines. Because dyslexics have great listening comprehension, audiobooks can enable independent access to school curriculum though “ear-reading” of complex or voluminous textbooks and novels.
The Lake Oswego Public Library has many audiobook services here:
https://www.ci.oswego.or.us/library/ebooks-audiobooks-more
LOSD assistive technology and audiobook resource information can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/100SqBgY1X_EjjRli2MsSkQWoR4RuxZ8ghpdfhy0Olrk/edit?usp=sharing
Read about assistive technology for dyslexia here: https://www.understood.org/en/about/search-results?q=assistive%20technology%20for%20dyslexia
If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s learning, please contact the school principal and/or literacy specialist. Another great parent resource would be to contact your school’s Student Services Parent Advisory Committee (SSPAC) representative.

Parent Teacher Conference Sign Up (Repeat)
Thursday, October 24 @ 7:30am to 3:30 pm
Friday, October 25 @ 7:30am to 3:30 pm
Please note that we are unable to provide conference times on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. These three preceding days, besides being full instructional days, are an important time for teachers to prepare for Thursday and Friday.
