World Read Aloud Week- One School, One Book!
Every family will receive a copy of the same book and a reading schedule for the week. Please make the time so your family can participate in this special activity. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader. But it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. With the One School, One Book program, we aim to build a community of readers at Reynolds School. Everyone – students, teachers, even administrative staff – will be participating, and we can all reap the many benefits.
Your child will receive a copy of the surprise book at a special school-wide assembly introducing the program and the book on Monday, February 5th. There will be clues leading up to the big reveal on Monday morning! Our School Committee has planned activities throughout the week for our students to enjoy that are all focused on the theme of the book. We will hold a reading assembly, read together as a school, enjoy mystery readers, book buddies, and a variety of fun activities throughout the week. We look forward to this wonderful week to continue to foster a love of reading in Reynolds School!Jump Rope For Heart- New Reynolds School Event
Digital Citizenship & Internet Safety in School and at Home
All students have begun a Technology unit of study to learn Digital Citizenship. Digital Citizenship teaches students how to safely and effectively use the Internet. We use an integrated approach, which provides students with the awareness and knowledge they need in order to recognize and avoid dangerous, destructive, or unlawful online behavior and to respond appropriately.
Mrs. Cucci's recent letter outlines the focus for each grade level unit. We encourage you to also discuss this important topic with your children at home and monitor their computer activity carefully. There are several online games that students may be playing at home where they can connect and communicate with others. For example, students have been discussing a game called Roblox, which allows them to chat within the game forum. Monitoring this interaction closely on any website or app is strongly recommended for student safety at home.
Passport to Learning in First Grade
Passport to Learning in grade one allows parents the opportunity to present on a country of their heritage or one that they are passionate about. During the classroom visit, parents present and discuss many facts about the country. Some of these include the traditions, foods, language and important symbols. The students have the opportunity to learn and be exposed to many different countries and cultures from around the world. In addition, the students are able to ask questions and extend their learning across the globe. Passport to Learning visits help the students become familiar with many different customs, traditions and cultures outside of the United States of America.
