Roxanne Clark, Language and Literacy Specialist
Hello IILA Families!
I am Roxanne Clark, the Language and Literacy Specialist at ICEF Innovation LA. This is my third year in this role, previously teaching first and fifth grade at another ICEF school.
I am originally from Los Angeles and a product of Los Angeles public and charter schools! I received my undergraduate degree from Clark Atlanta University, an illustrious HBCU in Atlanta, Georgia. I moved back to Los Angeles to get my Masters in Teaching from the University of Southern California.

School-Wide Expectations
Attendance Matters!
Congratulations Students with Perfect Attendance for the month of December!
Class Winner: Ms. Roberts Class. Incentive Winner: Larissa B.
It is important that students attend their live sessions everyday, on time, and that they also complete all of their asynchronous assignments!
The school uses PowerSchool to track students attendance PowerSchool now sends an automative message to the families of students who are absent to their live sessions. Teachers will take attendance in PowerSchool within 15 minutes of the class period starting.
PowerSchool notices will go out to families at 8:45 and 12:15. If your child is not in attendance within the first 15 minutes of class, you will receive the notice. Please make sure your children are in their live sessions daily and on time!

Academics
Black Lives Matter in Education Week: (ICEF Core Values of COMMUNITY, EQUITY, and GROWTH)
February 1st-5th is Black Lives Matter in Education Week. Our Language and Literacy Specialist, Ms. Clark, has compiled some activities for students. Some teachers may do some of the activities with their classes, but we encourage you to review them as well, with your children, if you so choose.
SBAC Parent Post
Some of our parents asked about information on SBAC during this past Evening Chat with the Principal. This link (English/Spanish-page 2) gives you a brief look at what the SBAC looks like. You can always visit the CAASPP website and find sample questions and practice tests your child can take.
We will continue this section, for our 3rd-5th grade families though May, after testing is complete. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Jundef (sjundef@icefps.org), Mr. Rodriguez (margarito.rodriguez@icefps.org), Ms. Clark (rclark@icefps.org), or Ms. McGee (lmcgee@icefps.org) with any SBAC related questions.
We are here for you!
IILA Data Spot
Our school-wide goal is to get 80% usage Lexia and 2 lessons/week on Achieve 3000 on a consistent bases. Please encourage your children to log on daily to reach their goals. They will be rewarded with class-wide incentives like certificates, Dojo points, and shout-outs! We can reach our goal, if we continue to encourage our children.
IILA...Planting Seeds for All to Grow!
Lexia
Achieve 3000
The data below shows the weekly progress of our 4th then 5th grade students. This chart looks at both the QUANTITY (number of lessons completed) and the QUALITY (how well the students did on the lessons). We want students to have HIGH quantity (2 lessons per week), and HIGH quality (75% or better on each lesson). The key is to make sure students log on and complete 2 lessons weekly and that they take their time so they do well on each lesson they complete.
Operations and Logistical
- Make sure your child is up and ready for class on time
- Create a quiet learning space in your home
- Have all school related materials ready for class and assignments
- Keep all of these materials in a central place, so students can get to them easily (a backpack is a good tool for storage)

The default to our Parent Square messages is English, however, if your family has listed Spanish as their home language, your Parent Square message come to you in Spanish. There may be a time when you would like to view the Parent Square message in a different language (to share with a friend or family member). If so, please see the steps below that guides families on how to change from English to Spanish, when you receive the message on your cell phone. The same can be done from Spanish to English. On your computer, you can simply open the link and look at the top of the screen, in between the search bar and the bell symbol.

English Language Learner (ELL) Chronicles!
In this section we will highlight the language and culture of our English Language Learners and their families. I would love to share your stories with the school community. Feel free to email stories, pictures, or examples of how you see the language and culture of our ELLs and their families incorporated in the learning environment.
An ELL Chronicle from Mrs. Jundef!
Mrs. Jundef shared a story about a connection she made with one of our EL students, Susana Flores, who she was able to grow more acquainted with when conducting the Empathy Interview last November. Since then Susana and Mrs. Jundef have built a stronger relationship, so much so that Susana contacted Mrs. Jundef upon returning from the break to welcome her back and make sure she was okay. This was special to Mrs. Jundef, because before embarking on this initiative, she realized that she may not have built such a strong relationship with this student, and now they are BFFs :o)
"Getting to build relationships with students outside of the classroom has been extremely meaningful!" -- Mrs. Jundef
