Gifted in Paradise

A QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER FOR THE GIFTED COMMUNITY IN PVUSD

October 2019 - Quarter 2

Welcome Parents of PV Gifted Learners!

Welcome to the gifted community in PVSchools! Please look for our parent newsletter each quarter. In these newsletters, we will share news and information, recommend resources, and send you invitations to events we schedule here in PVSchools and other opportunities around the valley. Whether your gifted child is in preschool, elementary, middle or high school, in these newsletters you will find information intended to help you support and prepare your gifted child for successful learning opportunities in our schools.

Parent / Teacher Conferences are upon us! Are you ready?

Whether this is your first-ever parent conference (as with parents whose first child is now in Kindergarten) or you are a veteran of numerous parent conferences, take a few minutes to prepare in advance to make the most of your time with your child’s teacher. This NAGC article comes from Connecting for High Potential, the quarterly parent newsletter published by the National Association for Gifted Children. The article provides parents (and teachers) of gifted children with tips on how to provide and hear information shared during your conference within the following areas: Getting Personal; Focus on the Positive; and Continual Communication.

About the DLC:

The Digital Learning Center (DLC) is a PVUSD gifted Middle school program that provides students with an interdisciplinary, project-based learning environment that embodies 21st Century learning. Science (8th), social studies (7th), and literature are combined within the DLC, allowing for a unique problem-based learning environment. This cross-curricular exploration will take students through the 7th and 8th grade standards with built-in continuity, exploring how science, history, literature, writing, and being a gifted learner fit into this world.
