Principal's Weekly Update for April 15th
Hope you all had a fun 4-day weekend!
A Message from the Moline Police Department
The Moline Police Department and Moline Fire Department have responded to multiple abandoned building fires since the start of the Governor's Shelter in Place Order. The Police Department has received information regarding groups of teenagers, primarily MHS Students, who are entering abandoned buildings to consume alcohol and 'hang out.' The Police Department, along with Moline High School, are concerned for the welfare and safety of those choosing to attend these gatherings. In addition to not adhering to social distancing and recommendations not to gather, students are putting themselves in danger of physical trauma. These buildings are often structurally unsound, filled with various hazardous materials/chemicals, and are often prone to being quickly consumed by fire. Please speak with your child about the life threatening dangers and legal consequences of entering such locations, and PLEASE, urge them to not enter.

Lights on for Support
Every Friday until the end of the Governor's Stay-at-Home Order, from 8:00-8:20 PM MHS will turn on the lights at Browning Field & the MHS Soccer Bowl. "Lights on" supports two movements:
#BeTheLight To honor our 2020 Seniors
#LightsForTheFight To honor the first responders & health care workers for their dedication to our community
Please join us in this support and recognition by turning on porch lights on Fridays from 8:00 - 8:20 p.m.
Completing Assigned Coursework
Students will continue to have their assignments recorded in Skyward as traditional letter grades, even though Semester Grades will be converted to Pass or Incomplete at the close of the term. Please know that MHS staff will continue to help students access materials and lessons to successfully complete courses with a passing grade. However, if a student earns an "incomplete" at the close of the term, he or she will still need to complete the assigned work to an acceptable level in order to earn a passing, rather than failing, grade. We encourage students to invest the time in their classwork NOW, rather than later, if at all possible.
If a parent or student has questions about student progress in any course, please reach out to your student's teacher or the high school administration for information or assistance. We are all working to help our students succeed during this unprecedented experience!
