*A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL SCRIVO*

Safety will continue to be one of our top priorities. Wearing face coverings, practicing physical distancing, and monitoring your student daily for symptoms is critical to slow the spread of this virus.

Call the Scotch School Safeline at 248-865-3282 if you know that your child will be late or absent from school. The Safeline is an absence reporting system that is available 24 hours a day. Please call our Scotch Safeline by 9:30 a.m. for Cohort A and by 1:45 p.m. for Cohort B if you know your student will be late or absent from school. Your student's absence will be unexcused unless we receive a phone call within 24 hours. Failure to contact the school by calling the attendance line will result in an UNEXCUSED absence.

It is very important for the school to have a working phone number in case your child gets sick during the day. We request that you or an emergency contact will pick up your sick child within the hour that you are called. It is important for the school to have a list of local emergency contacts that are available to pick up your child in the event that we are not able to reach you. Please notify the school if there are changes to your contacts.

If your child needs to leave school early for any reason, please send a note to school with your child. The note should include your student's name and grade, the reason for leaving the building, and the time you will be picking them up. Remember to include the time you will be picking your child up, not the time of the appointment in the note.

Picking up students prior to regular dismissal time is extremely disruptive to the class and your child's education. Due to COVID19 safety measures parents will be asked to call or buzz the buzzer at the front door and then wait outside for their student. Parents are required to show an I.D. The office will sign your student out. Children will be released to authorized people only. Students will not be released to anyone not listed on the student emergency card or contacts in PowerSchool. Early dismissals are discouraged. Students leaving a few minutes early often miss important last minute instructions and/or reminders. Interrupting class to call students to the office also distracts other students and interrupts the end of the day classroom routines. Early dismissals should occur only in rare circumstances. Please make every effort to schedule appointments outside of school hours.

HUBBARD'S HEALTHY HINTS

Physical Education is a crucial part of a child's social, emotional, and physical development. They learn motor skills that assist in their academic development! Did you know a child's ability to skip can positively impact their reading proficiency? Skipping is a rhythmic activity, so is reading. The more proficient they are in skipping it allows for them to be more proficient in reading! Make sure your child is attending physical education each week to be a well rounded student. Here is a great article on the benefits of physical education and how as a parent you can help build your child's foundational locomotor and non locomotor skills!

*SCOTCH UPDATES / REMINDERS*

2021 FEBRUARY MANTRAS CALENDAR

YOU MUST HAVE A CAR LINE TAG TO PICK UP YOUR STUDENT

CAR LINE DROP OFF

CARLINE PROCEDURES

Our Cohort A school day begins promptly at 9:25AM. Carline drop off times are between 9:10AM-9:25AM. When our 9:22AM bell rings, parents are asked to park their cars and escort their students to the front door as their students will not have enough time to walk to their class and sit down before the 9:25AM bell rings.

Our Cohort B school day begins promptly at 1:37PM. Carline drop off times are between 1:25PM-1:37PM. When our 1:34PM bell rings, parents are asked to park their cars and escort their students to the front door as their students will not have enough time to walk to their class and sit down before the 1:37PM bell rings.

Please follow the steps below to improve our carline procedures:

  • Please use your vehicle turn signal as you enter the school property from Hiller Road to allow other vehicles the opportunity to pass safely.

  • Please form 2 lanes of traffic, and then merge into 1 lane of traffic on an alternating basis.

  • Pull your vehicle all the way up to Principal Scrivo before stopping the car to release your student/s.

  • Please do not park and leave your car in this area.

  • Parents should stay INSIDE their vehicles at all times. Exiting cars not only delays the carline process, but also poses a hazard to those on the roadside of the car.

  • Students should exit vehicles on the CURBSIDE of the car and not the roadside.

  • Make sure that your student has all their belongings (i.e. backpacks, coats, etc.) ready in hand when you pull around to the end of the carline.

  • Please be considerate to the Scotch employees that facilitate the carline process. Their role is to ensure student safety and to keep the carline process efficient.

  • Our Commerce Road entrance will exclusively be used as a “BUS-ONLY” entrance.

CAR LINE PICK UP

CAR LINE DISMISSAL

Our Cohort A car line dismissal begins at 12:02PM.

Our Cohort B car line dismissal begins at 4:22PM.

Our Scotch carline procedure is in place to ensure the safety of our students, to improve traffic flow, and to decrease driver frustrations. Every student at Scotch that uses car line for dismissal (excluding all students that have been assigned a bus number) will be using the following carline procedure:

  • Every student at Scotch that uses carline for dismissal will be assigned a student/family number (i.e. 1, 2, 3, and 4). A Carline Number Request Form must be completed for number assignment.
  • Every student/family that is assigned a number will receive 2 laminated number signs to use in their vehicle(s) for pick-up. You will only need 1 sign per vehicle. Students will also receive a smaller version of the same number that will be attached to their backpack/school bag.

  • Please place the laminated number sign on your passenger side dashboard with the number facing outward, making it easy for the Scotch staff member to read.

  • As you arrive, please form 2 lanes of traffic, and then merge into 1 lane of traffic on an alternating basis.

  • Please pull your vehicle all the way to the end of the sidewalk before stopping your car. Continue to pull your vehicle toward the end of the sidewalk as students are picked up and as the line moves forward.

  • The Scotch staff will read the number from your dashboard and call the appropriate student(s) to the car for dismissal.

  • Please be considerate to the Scotch employees that facilitate the carline process. Their role is to ensure student safety and to keep the carline process efficient.

If you have a student that typically rides the bus, but will be picked up in carline, please send a written note to the teacher each day of carline pick-up. The note will be given to the teacher, sent to the front office, and then given to the student to use for carline pick-up. Student(s) who consistently take the bus home on a daily basis will not be assigned a number; therefore, the driver will not have a number sign in their car.

Any vehicle that does not have a number on their dashboard AND does not have a written note held by the student will be asked to park and sign their student out in the front office window. Students will not be released to any vehicle that does not have a number/student note.

NO GUESTS IN THE BUILDING

Unfortunately due to COVID regulations our guest policy will be significantly different this year. Unlike normal years, we will not be allowing parent guests in the building throughout the day.

NO GUEST BUS RIDERS AT THIS TIME!

Due to contact tracing and social distancing, guest bus riders will not be allowed at this time.

WBSD/DURHAM TRANSPORTATION BUS TRACKER

Durham Bus Tracker is an application (app) developed to help improve communication with families. This app will securely allow parents/guardians to view the location of their child(ren)’s bus in relation to their assigned bus stop as well as provide information about their routes, in near real-time, including the scheduled arrival time of each stop. The application is user friendly and available at no additional charge (mobile carrier data charges may still apply).
