Celebrate the Birthday of Kansas!
Celebrate Kansas Day at Kansas Museum of History Friday, January 29. “Enjoy performances and demonstrations of historic crafts and activities correlated to the Kansas History, Government, and Social Studies Standards." More information and a registration form are also available.
The Kansas Museum of History hosts the State Historic Annual Bleeding Kansas programs held 2 pm Sundays in January, February, and the first Sunday in March. This series includes talks and dramatic interpretations on the violent conflict over the slavery issue in Kansas Territory.

Best of the Best "Once upon a Time" and Voices of Kansas Publishing Opportunties
The Best of the Best is a literary magazine celebrating the writers and artists of Emporia High School. Explore your creativity and renew your spirit. Submit your best work by February 26, for this spring publication with a “Once upon a Time” theme to Mrs. Ternes or Mr. Pavlik. Appropriate submissions are limited to four pages and include: poetry, persuasive pieces, stories, news stories, essays, drawings, manga, and song lyrics.
The Voices of Kansas provides another publishing opportunity and welcomes poetry, creative fiction, non-fiction, and artwork from educators and students. Visit the website for details, deadlines, and prizes.
