Francis and the order.
The Franciscan order was originated from the Capuchin order. Its founders was Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Francis was an Italian monk that wanted to help people repent for their sins. He did so by traveling around the mountains and country singing happy songs and preaching the gospel.

Saint Francis
Saint Francis of Assisi was a Roman Catholic monk in Italy. He traveled across early Europe to spread his teaching. Oftentimes while preaching, animals would flock around him and sit listening to him talk. Saint Francis was the first person recorded to receive the stigmata. (The wounds that were inflicted on Christ on the the cross.) He was the patron saint of animals and nature.
He lived from 1881 to 1226
The order
The Franciscan order was mainly about repentance and readiness for God's second coming. They taught love for everyone and everything including nature. They taught it by laughing and being kind to everyone around them. They taught people how to be a better person overall.
