Check out this Maths website!
I am very excited to have found this website, it is called GregTangMaths and it has excellent games targeted at students in Primary or confident Stage 1 students. The website provides you with a number of games covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, place value, fractions and lots more. What I found great about the site was that it involves problem solving and working mathematically skills. This website is great for computer lab, Maths group or ignition activities.
New iPad Apps!
We have some great new apps on our iPads!
Big thanks to Emma and Suzanne for your app suggestions - keep them coming everyone. Enjoy!
Mathemagica
This great app was a paid app we picked up for free on special. It is a great app for K-6 students as it allows teachers and students to register themselves and then choose their grade. Within each grade setting the app has loads of activities in number and measurement. Fractions, decimals, money, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are all covered and vary in complexity within each grade level. The app records activities completed as part of the 'practice' mode and records levels of achievement in 'marathon' mode. This app is highly recommended! Found in Maths 1 folder.
Rory's Story Cubes
Recommended by Suzanne this terrific app is wonderful for creative writing. Based on the fun board game, Rory's Story cubes has all 9 dice within the app. Simply shake the iPad side to side to 'roll' the dice. The aim of the game is to try to write a creative text using all 9 dice. Or, more simply, use the dice as story prompts to keep students' stories flowing and interesting. Functions within the app can roll the dice for you, reverse your previous role, lock your dice, and also take a photo and save your photo of your dice to the camera roll so it can be saved and/or displayed on the smart board. This very clever and fun app can be found in our Literacy 5 folder.
aTypo Picture
This fun app can be used in a variety of ways. Similar to wordle and other word clouds, this app uses a picture taken by the user or from the camera roll and embeds words of your choice or words the user enters into the picture. This app could be used as way to present describing words, poetry, persuasive language, mathematical metalanguage - the sky is the limit! This app can be found in the Literacy 1 folder.
Have a great fortnight!
