Student Assistance Presentations
Student Assistance Services gave two presentations for parents this past month, both of which are available to view on-demand on the Parent Resource Services website.
The April 29th presentation titled What Parents Need to Know: Legalization of Marijuana in Virginia and the Potential Impact on Teens gave parents information about the new law, which goes in to effect July 1, 2021, the potential impact on teen substance use, services available in the school system and tips for parents navigating conversations with their students.
On May 13th, Student Assistance staff presented What’s New in Teen Substance Use? which provided an overview of current trends in teen substance use, the impact of COVID-19 on teen use, social media and substance use and strategies for parents to engage with their students around these topics and seek support.
Both presentations as well as the accompanying slides are available for view at www.lcps.org/parentresourceservices on the Welcome page when scrolling to the bottom under “Mental Health and Wellness Parent Series.”
Reach out to Rock Ridge’s Student Assistance Specialist, Fiona Brown, LPC, at Fiona.Brown@lcps.org with any questions.
