A word from Mr Broom

It's been a thrilling final week to the term as our children took the chance to celebrate their learning with our open classrooms and performances. Thank you to everyone who came along. I'm sure you will have been very impressed by our wonderful learners.

I'm also delighted to say that we are now the inter-schools tag rugby champions 2019! Our team beat off all opposition to take the title for the first time.

We're now off school for two weeks (and a day) and it's a great opportunity to spend some valuable family time together. I hope you have a super break and that the children come back refreshed, ready for the summer term.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE. SEPTEMBER OPENING

Having met with both the Architect, members of the North Yorkshire County Council Planning Department and our CEO, Mr Martyn Sibley, I am now in a position confirm the school opening arrangements for September 2019.

Starting on the 22nd July, the school will be closed to staff for the entirety of the summer period, through to Friday 30th August. During this time, extensive internal refurbishments will be taking place including:

- Hall extension (including the removal of all wall equipment and ceiling)

- Current Y3, Y4 and Y5 classrooms will be having new ceilings and lights, wall/window adaptations and skylights.

- The ICT suite will be extended to form a new classroom.

- Key Stage 2 corridors will be stripped back and fitted with new lighting, ceilings and flooring.

- Refurbishment works to the front entrance and Key Stage 1 side of school.

As you can imagine, the project will have a massive impact on our ability to function as a school.

For the site to be safe and ready for the children to return, school will open its doors to pupils on Thursday 5th September.

Staff will be working in school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week to make sure that our learning environment is ready for the children to return.

Given that we will be returning three days later than many expected, I'm hoping that this early notice will allow you plenty of time to plan child care.

Building Works start on Monday

As our doors close this evening, the contractors roll in to begin work on our extension and refurbishment. Over the Easter period, the Pool View classroom and kitchen garden will be demolished to make way for the general works compound.

The final plans for the works can be downloaded below and you will see that a new path will be created around the proposed compound, taking up approximately a 1/4 of our school field. If you enter the school grounds from the Co-op or Library gates, you won't be able to get through the side of the school where the Pool View used to be.

It's going to be very exciting over the next 18 months and I'll keep you fully updated with information as and when I get it. I thank you always for your support.

Our wonderful Easter Bonnets

A massive thank you to everyone who took the time to create an easter bonnet for our parade. Mr Sibley, our CEO, was on hand to celebrate with the children too.

Y2 Volunteer Readers Needed

We can't emphasise enough how important it is to read with children. For this reason, we're looking for some parent volunteers who may have an hour to spare to come and read with our Year 2 children. If you think you have the time, please call the school office for further information.

Y5 Seawig Masks

Mr Kelly and his band of happy Year 5s have been reading Oliver and the Seawigs as an inspiration for their writing. While Mr Sibley was in school today, they held a competition to announce the best Seawig and here are our winners:
