Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Spring Term - Issue 13
A word from Mr Broom
I'm also delighted to say that we are now the inter-schools tag rugby champions 2019! Our team beat off all opposition to take the title for the first time.
We're now off school for two weeks (and a day) and it's a great opportunity to spend some valuable family time together. I hope you have a super break and that the children come back refreshed, ready for the summer term.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE. SEPTEMBER OPENING
Starting on the 22nd July, the school will be closed to staff for the entirety of the summer period, through to Friday 30th August. During this time, extensive internal refurbishments will be taking place including:
- Hall extension (including the removal of all wall equipment and ceiling)
- Current Y3, Y4 and Y5 classrooms will be having new ceilings and lights, wall/window adaptations and skylights.
- The ICT suite will be extended to form a new classroom.
- Key Stage 2 corridors will be stripped back and fitted with new lighting, ceilings and flooring.
- Refurbishment works to the front entrance and Key Stage 1 side of school.
As you can imagine, the project will have a massive impact on our ability to function as a school.
For the site to be safe and ready for the children to return, school will open its doors to pupils on Thursday 5th September.
Staff will be working in school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week to make sure that our learning environment is ready for the children to return.
Given that we will be returning three days later than many expected, I'm hoping that this early notice will allow you plenty of time to plan child care.
Our Star Achievers this week!
Building Works start on Monday
The final plans for the works can be downloaded below and you will see that a new path will be created around the proposed compound, taking up approximately a 1/4 of our school field. If you enter the school grounds from the Co-op or Library gates, you won't be able to get through the side of the school where the Pool View used to be.
It's going to be very exciting over the next 18 months and I'll keep you fully updated with information as and when I get it. I thank you always for your support.
