Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
Our FUN RUN is TUESDAY NIGHT, October 24th from 5:30-6:30! We are hoping you all make time to swing by whether you want to walk, run, or just visit with our staff and other families! The weather should be perfect. Mr. Turkey will be there to warm up and run with your families, our favorite fireman and fire clowns will be there to cheer on the kids, and we will have booths set up inside the cafe with great info and give-aways for the kids! And you never know what other special visitors we may have! We will also have the book fair open for any shopping you'd like to do while you are here! This is always one of our favorite family events, so we hope you can all make it out!!
ONE AND DONE! We kicked off our annual fundraiser last week and have already gotten some donations in from some of you! Thank you SO MUCH!!! For those that haven't heard yet, we are asking for each family to make a one time donation to our school. You can send in cash or check in whatever amount you feel led to donate. We will send a receipt home for your records. We will use all the money toward materials for our classrooms that students will use directly. This will help us purchase books, manipulatives, toys that support motor development and social skills, and other classroom resources that will maximize learning. This is our once a year fundraiser so please consider making a donation to support ECS! This fundraiser will run until November 17th. Thank you, in advance, for supporting our school!
Mark your calendars for a new event we are incorporating this year! November 14th from 5:30-6:30 we will have our first MATH & LITERACY NIGHT! We are super excited about this event and have been planning for it since last Spring. When you arrive, the first 400 families will receive a tote bag to collect the activities and a free children's book! Then we will direct you to the part of the building you will go depending on the type of program your child attends. There will be stations for you to rotate through at your leisure to collect ideas and materials to support you and your child's progress at home. We hope everyone can make it!

Book Fair is Next Week!
Next week is our Fall Book Fair!! It will be open all week long and our librarian would LOVE some volunteers to help run it! Here are two links. One gives you more information about the Book Fair and the other is a link to sign up to volunteer. We'd love to have you on campus helping out!
Tuesday night the Book Fair will stay open late to allow you to come after school hours to shop with your child. It is during our Fun Run so we hope you'll check out both events!

I Want to Hear From You!!
Many of you have posted comments, suggestions or questions on my Parent Padlet. Thank you! It is one of the ways for me to stay connected with you and allows other parents to see your questions. You never know when someone else is wondering the same thing. The cool thing is that it is completely anonymous! So post away and I will be sure to respond.
Just click on this link and you're on your way!

Teaching our children to resolve problems on their own is one of the most important skills to help them develop. As a counselor and a parent, I try to keep in mind the idea to not do something for my children that they can do on their own. Now, I did share it’s important, but I didn’t say it was easy. Waiting patiently for them to follow through or make mistakes can be challenging. It can be especially difficult if your child fails or gets frustrated and wants to quit. However, if you keep your eye on the prize, you will raise a child who can think independently, persist in learning, and encourage respect. Moreover, failing gives your child an opportunity to process what happen and create new ways to tackle the problem. This teaches them grit and helps them to be resilient.
At ECS, we are creating little problem solvers. Whether we engage them in literacy and ask critical thinking questions or involve them in social skills activities, we will guide our students to resolve problems respectfully and in a manner that is satisfying to them. Teaching our students to accurately label their feelings will support healthy emotional development. We want our students to feel that their words are important. In order to support this, we will create a trusting environment so we can focus on the learning, not the small problems.
Your family can:
· Model problem solving skills by talking about steps to resolve issues
· Use opportunities like puzzles, stories, board games, and craft projects for teachable moments
· Brainstorm and be creative when experiencing a problem
· Reflect about the results or consequences of an outcome
