‘GROWING GREATNESS / GRANDEZA EN CRECIMIENTO'
HAPPY 2023!
MESSAGE FOR BPMS STUDENTS
You are not who you were a year ago.
You learned, you matured, you experienced, you overcame challenges, you took another step toward becoming the person you’re meant to be.
Yes, it’s been a hard few years, but one day you’ll look back and realize how tough it was, and
HOW WELL YOU DID!
WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!
PARENT/STUDENT WORKSHOP
During advisory, students have been working on AVID organizational skills. This includes a binder check and grade check on Fridays. Students make sure that they have the materials ready for the following week. As students transition to high school it is imperative that they are organized to be able to manage seven classes and be successful. During this workshop we will go over our expectations and how you can help. In addition, we would love to show you how to access ParentVue to be able to check grades and attendance.
This will be an in person workshop for parents and their student(s).
To help us plan for our time together please answer these few questions: Parent and Student Workshop
Please join us on Thursday, January 12th.
Workshop in Spanish and English: 6:00-7:00 pm

Join our Lunch Council group! As a group we will focus on using our natural strengths and broaden our understanding about our roles in today’s world. By promoting valuable relationships with peers and adult facilitators, our goal is to increase your emotional, social, and cultural literacy.

Come join this weekly group which builds relationships, works on processes to overcome problems, and builds communication skills. We will work together to increase positive connection, strengths, and competence. Circle meets on Wednesdays during lunch to talk about current events and issues, process information together, and practice listening skills.
Dungeons and Dragons: Thu. 3:30-5:00pm in Mr. Sellers’ Rm. Starts Jan. 12th.
Come and join the adventure! If you are an expert player or just want to learn how to play, there is room for you. D&D is an adventure game based on problem solving, making choices, and storytelling! If you have dice already, bring your own. A limited number of dice will be available for those of you just getting started!
Career Exploration: Mon. 3:30-5:00pm. Starts Jan. 16th.
Come join our Possible Futures club! Not sure what you want to be when you grow up? Come explore the possibilities! We will work with guest speakers, visit job sites and connect with people in the community who can help you learn about what kinds of jobs are out there. Our first field trip is Jan. 30th to the Sheet Metal Institute in Portland. Students will tour the site, bend and cut steel, and listen to the stories of our tour guides. We will wrap up the field trip with pizza for lunch so we can process the experience and share what we learned on our visit!
**Please note, this club is limited to 15 students at this time
Future Business Leaders of America: Every other Wed. 2:30-4:00pm (Rm. 107)
Starts Jan. 11th.
In FBLA students get to explore what it takes to run a business. We build problem solving, public speaking, and leadership skills. Our goal this year is to participate in some of the FBLA competitions as well. If FBLA turns into something you love, don’t worry, you can participate in the high school FBLA team when you get there.
As the temperatures get colder, it’s time to start preparing for winter weather! If the weather is severe enough to cancel school, the first day of inclement weather will be a snow day for all! Any inclement weather day thereafter will be an online learning day.
In the event of an online learning day, Canby High School will begin at 8:40 a.m. and all other schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Students should watch for Zoom links from their teachers. If students have trouble connecting or need help, they should reach out to their teacher. Canby School District strives to make the most of this valuable educational time, but please know that students will not be penalized if they are unable to connect.
To make sure you’re set to receive information about school delays, or closures, and online learning days, please subscribe to Canby School District on FlashAlert. Now is also a good time to update your text preferences online by listing your phone number.
For more information, please see our inclement weather page.
CURRICULUM RENEWALS 2022-2023
Each school year, the Canby School District leads a curriculum renewal process in a core content area. This school year we will be renewing our K-12 health curriculum and our 9-12 world languages curriculum. We are looking for 2-4 parents who represent different schools and levels to participate on one of our curriculum committees. Committee members will participate in professional learning, join committee meetings during the day or after school and observe the review process. If you are interested in participating or learning more about the committee, please contact your building principal. The Teaching and Learning team will then contact you with more information. Note that all parents, whether on a committee or not, will have the opportunity to view curriculum and provide input. We will hold information nights and input opportunities as part of our review process.
