Curtis Elementary

Great Start to the Year!
Thanks for a Great Start! While it has been crazy for the first week, I know things will settle down soon! Please, help spread the word about how this week is the last week to walk kids to the classroom.
New Hours and SECURITY
I want to remind you about our new school hours! The first bell will ring at 7:40. Students will proceed to class at this time. The tardy bell will ring at 7:50. Your class time should begin at 7:50. School ends at 3:20.
I am sending a letter home this week as follows:
Welcome! We are excited that your child will be attending Curtis Elementary for the 2016-2017 school year. We know every child that attends Curtis is special, and we cherish the opportunity to share in this educational journey with you and your child. We are committed to providing a quality educational experience for each and every child.
There are many opportunities for parents and families to become actively involved at Curtis. We hope you will choose to become an active partner as we strive to teach, challenge and inspire each student in a safe, nurturing environment. If you would like more information about becoming involved, please call the Welcome Center.
When you enter our campus this year, you’ll notice the reception and office area has been relocated, to incorporate a controlled entry for increased safety and security. This controlled entry will include electronic access control, security cameras, and a set of doors that allows reception to “buzz in” visitors and lock the doors electronically.
Controlled entrances allow us to increase our level of security. As you know, our campuses are very busy places at the beginning of the school day. So much so, that it can be difficult, if not impossible, for us to know who is coming in and out of our campuses.
This year we’re inviting you to walk your children to their classroom during the first two weeks of school. After that, we’ll provide a place for you to walk your child to in the entrance of our building. Students will then walk to their classes. When the tardy bell rings, all individuals entering our building will come through the controlled entry for assistance from our office staff.
If we can help you in any way, please call our Welcome Center at 817-598-2838. Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to partner with you in the education of your child!

Our main focus at Curtis is to make sure that your student is safe at all times. We have new procedures in place.
- All doors will remain locked in the morning.
- Front doors will be opened from 7:15 – 7:50. At 7:50 the doors will close and students will have to go through the office to enter the building.
- Students may go to cafeteria for breakfast and gym if not eating breakfast.
- Breakfast is from 7:15-7:50--- Any students that come in at 7:50 or after will take their breakfast to class with them.
- Parents may accompany their student to breakfast but will not be allowed into the instructional area of the building.
- Parents that want to conference with their child's teacher must check in at the office.
- Entry through the back doors is only allowed for staff, handicap visitors, bus and bicycle students during the school day.
New Card System
Beginning Monday, August 29th parents will use a color coded name card to help with dismissal. Parents are encouraged to display their card in the car window in order to ensure all students safety at dismissal. This will allow parents the opportunity to stay in their vehicle while staff members bring their student to the vehicle. If you are in need of a new card please notify your teacher to get a replacement. If an alternate person is picking up your student, please have them come to the office for verification.
Remember to notify the office in writing or by phone, if your child has an alternative plan for getting home.

Curtis Board Meeting
Our board meeting presentation is on September 12, 2016. I would love for at least one person from each grade level to come. You can leave right after our presentation.
We will be filming next week to prepare for this presentation. We may be needing some of your kids to do this! I will let you know what day we will prepare.
It speaks a lot about a campus when we pack the house! Let's follow our tradition and show Curtis Spirit!
