Have a great week!
Hi DSA community;
We are off to a strong start and we have some important reminders for all of our students.
- Students in grades 10,11,12 must return their Chromebook Sign-Off form in order to receive a Chromebook this year.
- Students in grades 7-12 were issued M7 cards for free MBTA travel. Students; please keep this M7 card on you. Do not lose it or let someone else borrow it.
- The Dearborn STEM Academy provides each of our students with a locker and a lock. Please see your respective Dean if you need a locker and a lock.
- It's important that students get to school every day and on time.
Thank you and best wishes,
Dana Brown and Darlene Marcano, Co-Principals

STUDENT HANDBOOK POINTS OF EMPHASIS, 2019-20
Come to DSA Ready To Learn:
Successful teaching and learning requires students and teachers to be ready to teach and learn right from the start of class. DSA expects teachers to have thoughtful and rigorous lesson plans and all relevant materials prepared and ready for every class session.
Students are expected to:
Get to class on time.
Turn cell phones and other digital devices off and put them away/out of sight.
Be ready to read, take notes, listen, explain; be full participants in their own education.
Getting in the way: Cell Phones/Digital Devices:
A student must turn their cell phone and/or digital device off and put it away at the start of each class period. Teachers will remind all students at the beginning of the class to put their phone off and away. Students are also not allowed to charge their phones during class. Should a student use their phone without permission teachers will ask for the phone and return it at the end of the class period or the end of the day.
Any student who refuses to put their phone away will be referred to support staff, who will take the phone and return it at the end of the day. Students who continue to abuse the phone policy will be placed on a phone contract whereby a student turns their phone into their respective Dean each morning and gets it back at dismissal time. Phone contracts will be issued for 1-10 days with the school having the right to renew the contract for any student not following the policy.
Teachers may give students permission to use their phones/digital devices when there is a technical application relevant to the work at hand that cannot be accomplished any other way. This should be a rare occasion. DSA recognizes that many students have important family and work responsibilities in addition to school. If a student has an urgent personal or family situation, they can ask permission from their teacher to go to one of several locations where they may use their phone to handle the situation (Counselor’s Office, Main Office). In this case, every student is expected to return to class with a pass from the receiving staff as soon as is possible.
For safety purposes, earbuds and headphones may not be worn in the hallways and assemblies.
