DHS Special Broadcast - 1/15/19
2019-2020 School Year Course Selection Information
A message from Mr. Finkle!
Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow evening (1/16/19), we will be hosting our annual AP/College Accelerated Program (CAP) Information Evening at 6pm, an Elective Expo at 6:45pm and our 8th Grade Parent Orientation at 7:30pm!
The administration and supervisors will give a quick general overview of our AP Program and our CAP Program and answer any questions that you have about AP, CAP and the differences! You will then have time to review AP materials and to speak with our present AP students who are the best and most knowledgeable about making these tough decisions.
For the Class of 2023, we have the Elective Expo where you will have the opportunity to explore all of our elective courses that are being offered for incoming Freshman.
Last but not least, at our annual 8th Grade Parent Orientation, we will introduce the scheduling process along with our 2019-2020 Course Offerings/Descriptions/Sequences, Graduation Requirements, Schedule Change Calendar, CAP Courses and NCAA Eligibility Guidelines to the parents of the DHS Class of 2023! This will be a very informative evening, and we look forward to meeting you!
The Scheduling Process
Listed below are all the documents you will need to help your child pick his/her courses for next school year:
- 2019-2020 Program of Studies
- 2019-2020 Consolidated Course Offerings
- 2019-2020 Core Course Offerings for the Class of 2023
- 2019-2020 Scheduling Waiver Form
- 2019-2020 Option II
- 2019-2020 Independent Study - Option II
As in previous years, students will be choosing their elective courses from January 17th to January 23rd. Teachers have spoken with each student last week to inform him/her about their recommendation. Tomorrow, all teacher recommended courses will be available for your viewing on the Parent Portal. Should you and your child wish to move to a higher level, a Scheduling Waiver Form must be submitted. Waiver Forms should be submitted to the Guidance Department ASAP. It is not necessary to meet with a counselor to submit a waiver form. Waivers will not be accepted after February 28, 2019.
Each student will meet with his/her counselor beginning with the Class of 2020, 2021, and then 2022. All students should be seen by mid-March so do not worry if your child has not been seen by the end of January. Students will bring a form home for final review and parent signature after the meeting. Should you have any questions, please speak with your child's counselor.
Option II paperwork must be completed for any course taken outside of the four walls of DHS. This would be used for credit recovery and accelerating in a course of study. We also use Option II paperwork for Independent Study courses. Please remember to read the paperwork thoroughly and have it approved before any monetary fees have been paid.
