Mrs. Boschen's Weekly News
April 11 - April 15, 2016
This Week's News
In math we will be finishing our problem solving with area and perimeter, and beginning our next review unit of fraction skills. We have worked through the practice problems released from last year's tests, and I am pleased with the efforts and successes students have been showing!
In ELEA, we are completing our Opinions Matter unit. Students are continuing to summarize non-fiction and being sure that they can support their thinking with evidence. We are also looking at multiple texts on the same topic to compare them, which means we have to have a solid understanding of BOTH texts. Finally, we are really taking a close look at written responses for PARCC questions to be sure that we understand how to use evidence to explain our thinking.
We have begun our work with animal research, and students are engineering their own animals. The critical thinking that students are showing in their animal selections and the details that they are focusing on is a pleasure to see! I am really excited to see these projects come to completion!
- Please remind your children to keep working on their cursive - our completion target is April 22!
- Book clubs are meeting on Wednesday.
PARCC Dates
We are one week away from the beginning of PARCC assessments. We will be taking the ELA portion April 19 - 21, and the Math portion May 2-5. Testing will begin at 7:45 each morning, so please be sure that your child will be there on time.
