Due to the reorganization, Learning Coaches’ professional development will be guided by the new Director of Professional Learning, which ultimate falls under Dr. Hackenwerth in the Innovation and Information department. The final Learning Coach meeting of the year is on May 17th at KAC. Principals with coaches are invited to attend starting at 9:15 am.
I appreciate everyone’s patience during the planning and execution of the Cardinals field trips. We are currently looking at alternatives for 3rd grade students as they did not see a ballgame.
Remember summatives are due May 1.
At our weekly Explore meeting, the following grade level enrollments are down as compared to the same time last year:
· Kindergarten: down 94 students
· 3 grade: down 86 students
· 4 grade: down 123 students
Please be thinking of some strategies you can use to help get Explore numbers up after MAP testing concludes. If you need ideas, call me.

A few extensions on Bret's notes. With Growth Plans being closed out & Summatives due May 1st., this may also be a good time to remind you about PBTE codes. Here is a key to reading the codes, so you know who gets a summative:
- P1-P5 – probationary – get a summative
- W1-W4 – transfers who receive one year credit toward tenure – get a summative
- T5’s get a summative (every fifth year)
- T1-T4 – tenured teachers not on cycle – they do complete a growth plan, however summatives are not required.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Dr. Cooper.
Concerning Explore, we are entering a two-tier approach for recruiting students. While all are welcome, our focus needs to be on students that are not performing at their expected level. We learned from the first run at Explore the power of a principal connection to home (tier 1). The most powerful, and 2nd tier, should be a home connection from the classroom teacher. Kelsy Brabo will be providing to your site liaison a list of students who would most benefit from participating, and I'm asking that you support the cause of getting students that need it most signed up for Explore.
As we enter May, there is still much learning to support. Thank you for your dedication and passion. Call me for any support needed.
