October 2023
Greetings
Hello Challenge parents! We are so enjoying getting to know your kiddos. Thank you so much for filling out the student information sheet, it saves us a lot of trips to the office to get information. I hope you all have a fabulous month!
THIRD GRADE
The third graders will be hard at work learning about William Shakespeare. They will learn about his early life, his family, and his education. This month the students will be learning about Shakespeare’s theater, The Globe. They will be learning about the jobs in the theater and the theater audiences. In Figure It Out the third graders will solve word problems by working backward and making tables. Please encourage your third graders to study their multiplication tables. Your third graders should already know the facts for 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. This year they will be learning the rest of their facts, and it will help them tremendously in Figure It Out and Hands on Equations if they are proficient with them.
Fourth Grade
This month we will move on to a unit on bridge history. The students will learn about three main types of bridges, the beam bridge, the arch bridge and the suspension bridge.. We are reviewing in Hands on Equations, our algebra program. I am so proud of my new friends who have caught on so quickly. In Figure it Out, our problem solving unit the students will use acting and guess and check to solve complex word problems.
Fifth Grade
Our next unit is about the famous western artist Frederick Remington. Students will learn how Remington's viewpoint helped shape how people view the wild west. After that we will move on to a unit about the Statue of Liberty. Students will be learning all about they symbols the statue contains. We are reviewing in Hands on Equations, our algebra program. The kids are doing great! In Figure it Out the students will be learning to use patterns and experimenting to solve complex word problems.
