Boardroom Briefs is intended to provide highlights of presentations, reports and decisions made at the regular meeting of the Limestone District School Board of Trustees. These briefs do not serve as the official record of the meeting. Please refer to Board minutes which are approved at the next regular meeting. Community members are also invited to follow along during live tweets of regular Board meetings using the hashtag #LDSBmtg.

Each meeting, a different Trustee will present the Indigenous Acknowledgement of Territory and include their own personal reflections.

Chair and Vice Chair elected for 2022 term

Trustee Suzanne Ruttan was acclaimed as Chair for the 2021-2022 term at the Annual Meeting of the Board on December 1, 2021. Trustee Tom Gingrich was re-elected as Vice Chair.


Trustees Gingrich and Robin Hutcheon were nominated for the Vice Chair position. Vote for the positions was by secret ballot. Trustees elect a Chair and Vice-Chair each year of their four-year mandate.


This will be Chair Ruttan’s fourth term as Chair. She was first elected to the Limestone District School Board in October 2010 as the representative for the Township of South Frontenac. She served as Vice Chair of the Board for the 2017-2018 school year and Chair for the 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021 school years.


Vice Chair Gingrich, who represents the Kingscourt-Rideau & King’s Town districts, was first elected in 2018. He served as Vice Chair of the Board for the 2020-2021 school year, and has served as the Trustee representative of The Food Sharing Project Board of Directors and has served as the alternate Limestone representative on the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association. In this role, Vice Chair Gingrich will chair the Education Policy and Operations Committee.

Trustees selected their committee roles for the 2022 year on December 6, 2021. Trustees must serve on at least one committee in addition to the Committee of the Whole Board and Education Policy and Operations Committee.

Reports for Information: Director's Annual Report 2020-2021

Director of Education Krishna Burra provided the following report.


The 2020-2021 was again punctuated by the COVID-19 pandemic and additional school lockdowns. Despite these ongoing challenges, staff and students remained focused on learning and supporting each other’s well-being. The Limestone District School Board Director’s Annual Report provides a brief snapshot of continued progress on our multi-year strategic plan anchored by the pillars of Wellness, Innovation and Collaboration. The Director's Annual Report is a requirement of the Education Act.

OPSBA Reports

Trustee French provided the following report. Planning is underway for advocacy day in February as the province and trustees head into elections in 2022. Project Compass sessions to provide input on future of OPSBA are next week and work will continue with consultation on updating Trustee oath to include treaty statements to reflect Truth and Reconciliation 94 Calls to Action - this has been sent to the Indigenous work team for review.


Trustee McGregor provided an update on OPSBA's submission to the provincial government for the forthcoming Grants for Students Needs (GSNs) consultation. Trustee Hutcheon added there was rich conversation from Trustees on the Code of Conduct consultation.
