Live Synchronous Sessions
Officially beginning February 25, 2021 - Elementary
Dear Hybrid and Remote Families,
As you know, the district will be transitioning to a model where all students in K-12 have an opportunity to participate in live synchronous sessions with their classroom teacher(s) and classmates. All remote and off-cohort students will be invited to attend these sessions during our hybrid (in-person) learning days. Due to the inclement weather, some staff may need to delay their live sessions until Thursday. We appreciate your understanding as we are working quickly to ensure all of our technology is operational.
By Thursday, February 25, all K-5 teachers will be connecting synchronously with their off-cohort and remote students while teaching in the classroom during all hybrid days of instruction. At the elementary level, we began piloting this option on a small scale in the fall and expanded our pilot in January. Based on feedback from teachers, students, and families, our model varies by grade bands to support the developmental needs of our students and the technological challenges at the various levels.
In grades 3-5, students will be required to attend the live sessions, and the recorded video will be replaced by the live opportunity. Students will receive the links and times from their classroom teacher(s), so we appreciate your attention to this correspondence. You should be receiving this information at the beginning of the week.
Beginning February 25, 2021 (Extended from February 22)
The timeframe below allows the off-cohort and remote students ample time to practice and work independently, while also allowing the same for our in-person learners. Therefore, students will be expected to complete the practice activities designed by their teachers, in addition to attending to the live sessions.
Times for Live Instruction
The timeframe for our grade bands is outlined below.
Specific times will be provided by your child's classroom teacher.
o Kindergarten - Grade 2 - All K-2 students will receive live sessions focusing on social-emotional learning, morning meetings, and/or whole group learning activities for a minimum of 30 minutes a day with their classroom teacher. All remote education facilitator (REF) sessions will remain for our primary learners, and our primary teachers will continue to connect with their off-cohort and remote learners at the end of the day. REF sessions provide students with the key learning target for the day in ELA and mathematics.
o Grades 3-5 –(REQUIRED ATTENDANCE) In grades 3-5, off-cohort and remote learners will no longer receive live instruction from the remote education facilitator (REF). All intermediate grade level students will receive their live instruction from the classroom teacher, and the recordings related to the live component will no longer be available. Students will engage in live whole group lessons by subject area:
Math – Minimum of 30 minutes per class
ELA – Minimum of 50-60 minutes per class (May be broken into segments)
Social Studies– Minimum of 30 minutes per class
Total time should not exceed 2.5 hours per student.
Please note these whole group times do not include the additional time for small group reading/writing lessons, interventions, or special programming.
